I use to date a guy that loved Les Paul guitars. He had a wide range of different guitars (Fender Strat, Tele, and a Les Paul) and he much preferred playing the Les Paul over the other two. He thought it had a better sound.

To each their own. I'm basically a Strat/Superstrat guy but I love Les Pauls. I own a few and they sound great. Whether if it's for heavy rock rhythms, blues or jazzy stuff they come thru. And the ones I own are light and they don't kill my shoulder.

My only complaint with some Les Pauls is sometimes when you do a violent bend (especially around the G) they go out of tune. Not all but some.

Yeah...Sometimes the tuners or the bridge/nut setup needs to be looked at. But it's not major work and any pro luthier can fix it at a low price.

Just changed your mind? I've seen some sweet deals on used Taylor's in my area, and at G.C. Off the rack, I like Guild's and Yamaha's. I just commissioned an acoustic guitar from Jim Worland: an OM Redwood (top) / Madagasscar rosewood (back & sides) 12- fret cutaway acoustic.

I think Gibsons and Fenders are different animals. Both are wonderful in their own ways but to me a Gibson just feels superior in my hands. And they look so timeless too.Whether you were playing one in 1956 or 2000-whatever, you looked so cool playing a Les Paul.

I don't think Les Pauls are ugly, on the contrary, but they are small yet heavy. Depending on the guitar I don't like the way they play and sound much either.

But they are pretty.

I have a Gibson Epiphone stratocaster. Plays wonderfully easy and has the warmest sound. It's not very pretty tho'. lol
