Anx, why is LASSO (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) regression so preferable to other regression selection techniques? I mean, subset selection, garotte regression and stagewise always seemed fine before! What do you make of the use of the L1 norm instead of the traditional L2 norm penalty? This week, people keep coming up to me and asking crazy shit that I couldn't possibly know the answers to. And it's not like I'm polite when I tell them I don't know what the hell they're talking about. I do my best to discourage people from approaching me with unnecessary questions, but they just keep coming back. Today, some total STRANGER came up to me on the train and asked me what some random street sign meant. I had no freakin idea. "Oh, I was just curious and I thought you might know." What, am I dressed like a conductor today? LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
Maybe I look too knowledgeable. It's not like I don't try really hard to look as stupid as humanly possible, believe me. Maybe I need a scary face tattoo so I'll look less approachable.
