I've always refused for reasons I don't fully understand. I guess I just find it silly and awkward. But how can you not shake a hand without offending someone?

Two options:

1. When they offer their hand, put your hand in fist-bump position.

2. Say, "I have a thing with shaking hands."

Or fake cough/sneeze into your hand just as you are meeting them. I bet they won't even want to shake your hand after that. lol
"Your presence and dry wit are appealing in a mysterious way."

If they can't even say hello properly, they can definitely not do ANYTHING properly.

this is the same kind of quick judgement we make when job applications are full of typos = applicant won't pay attention to detail.
Make a good impression folks! It matters!

Absolutely! Handshakes you can practice and NOBODY has EVER said that a limp handshake is good. Spelling you can check even if you yourself can spell for shit. These people gotta go.

Nobody has an excuse for either really, but did anyone actually have a reason for the limp hand? hmmm do they do it deliberately? without thinking?

There was a guy I met on my honeymoon in Port Douglas, (and he funnily enough happened to be the zoo keeping manager at Skansen back in 1998) and I still remember him for 2 reasons: one, his son Oscar was really sweet, and we named our firstborn after him! two, because when he gave me his hand to shake, I nearly dropped it shrieking, it was lifeless! Like a dead hand! disbelief

I am anti-handshaking. What is it besides an empty gesture and a very efficient method of getting germs from one host to another?

Work it Hearst! wink I am getting more that way as I age. I really get irritated when someone arrives with an obvious cold! shake

I've never understood the limp handshake from men or women. I was taught that a firm handshake was the only kind. Limp ones sort of freak me out.

Why do folks do the limp handshake?
