What kind of question is that? Am I not allowed to care for others, and their feelings? I am sorry if my thoughtfulness seems to offend you, but I do care what others think of other people. I don't feel anyone, fat, skinny, short, tall, brown, red, purple, green, should be looked down upon for who they are!!!

I do have someone in my life that loves me for me. And as a stated earlier, this subject has been beaten to death at another site I post on. So I vented, last time I checked, I can do that!

Aah,at the end of the day, don't get to worked up about it...EVERYBODY here can attest to you being the perfect protype of "Thick-Fine", Mama hug mushy hug

Okay, so youre not taking it personally, thats fine. Youre just showing concern for everyone. I admire that, but youre actually looking down on people who do have a preference, be it blonde, brunette or whatever. Lets leave race out of this, because choosing blonde over brunette is not the same as prejudice against skin colour. Also, your physical appreance does not represent "who you are."

What are your prefernces?

I don't really have one, I have dated all kinds of men. And I am not looking down on others, I don't care if people like plump girls, or skinny girls. If anyone would bother to take time to really read, you will see that I don't care for the men who actually like the plump girls, enjoy them behind closed doors, but are to afraid to go public, because society tells them it's wrong! That was my point!!!!

There's a name for those men, cowards, on that point I agree with you.

I agree with you but then again, they feel chastised by peoples opinions. So their opinions remain no less valid. It all gives to the big picture no?

No that is not what i said. Let me make it real simple for you as you don't appear to be able to grasp it any other way.

This is how i feel.

If a person states that they only ever date a person who is (insert colour, religion, hair colour, weight,or any other variable here) then they are demonstrating a prejudice or ism against anyone without said variable.

At no point have i said they can't or shouldn't do that or removed their ability to do so, i have simply stated that such ones demonstrate a closed attitude.

The problem here is that in some way you CARE if people don't like your choice.

Maybe youve dated every conceivable possibility when it comes to women, I dont know, but even you have your preferences.

Wonderful! I don't either but again, this is not what this thread is about. It's about preferences.

Not being attracted to someone does not mean that you are looking down on them.

What if your only language is English, isnt it shallow to date only English speakers? How about exclusion based on gender? using your logic, this should also apply.

You said "If a person states that they only ever date a person who is (insert colour, religion, hair colour, weight,or any other variable here) then they are demonstrating a prejudice or ism against anyone without said variable. "

I asked you if you thought dating only English speakers exclusively ( if your first language is English) was shallow? Or only women exclusively ( if youre a guy) they're straightforward questions.

I also said

Having a preference isn't shallow, saying that is the only thing you would ever date is. It precludes everyone else based on one trait when in reality we all have preference and the preference we look for is only part of the picture.

Dayum, why are y'all ganging up on my boy? All he's saying is that if I come on here talking about "the ONLY women I like or would ever get with are thin, bright skinned black women who weigh between 105-115, 5'2"-5'6" with a college degree", then I might be a SHALLOW MUTHAFUCKA!!! Everyone is entitled to get with whatever floats their boat for sure, but having a preference and vociferously stating that you wouldn't even consider anything other than your preference are two totally different things....

To me, I've always taken a preference as something that I would rather than the alternative, but never as cut and dried as if I don't get it, I'll be an unhappy camper...I always just adjusted my preferences as I went along...I'm not trying to speak for anyone but self with this, but my likes/dislikes have never been so absolute that I'd end up missing out on someone who in the short term might rock my world...at some point, with most things, all people compromise their wants and preferences simply because life stepped in and jumbled up the mix a bit...and IMHO all I think Phil was saying is that folks who are so resolute in their wants, likes, desires, and preferences that they'd exclude some possibly very special folks could definitely be labelled shallow....

ok i think we are actually in agreement here nod the issue was that by saying that u didnt PREFER something/someone meant u were showing PREJUDICE toward them and that i didnt agree with that

now as far as shallowness is concerned i really dont know how to define that cuz shallowness to some may read as preference to others

uh no, that's not what he's saying.. Renegade.. there was a thread not too long ago, where a person said they only wanted to date within their race cause they feel more comfortable with people of the same cultural background, have the same experiences and can relate more to how they feel and mdiver and some others accused the person as prejudice for saying that... all races of people do this, there are caucasians who will only date caucasian, Spanish/Spanish, Indian/Indian.. so on and so forth (cause they feel more comfortable with their race) ....so why all of a sudden are they labelling people prejudice for dating their own people? whofarted makes no sense... you know you will not like everything on the friggin menu .. personal preference has NOTHING TO DO with discriminations ...how you treat all races of people has nothing to do with what you personally like..
