Has this happened to any of you????! I just got a call from an automated service telling me that it's not too late to continue the warranty on my car.
I don't own a car. It said to press one to speak to a representative and so I did so I could tell them they have the wrong number and to take my number out of their database. So it rings and a man answers and he says "hello can I have the make and model of your car?" and I tell him that I got a call to extend the warranty but that I don't own a vehicle and before I could tell him to take me off the list he hung up. *CLICK* I thought, how fucking rude so I called back the number and it rang and then this: The number you have dialed is not in service at this time, thank you. So I waited for a little bit and tried calling back and now it just is a busy tone. I waited some more and then got that message and then tried again and it's just a busy tone. It was a Florida number 239-489-3230. Should I be concerned about any fraud or anything? I mean I have unlimited minutes so even if they tapped into my phone to use it for calls it won't matter Is there somewhere where I can report this becuase of how odd it is? It feels like a scam and not just some random call. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I have gotten about 3 or 4 calls like this and I haven't owned a car for 10+ years. Technically I have only gotten the voice mail recording because I hardly every answer my cell phone and never if it's from a number I don't recognize.

i've had that. more often it's "you've won a cruise... press one to claim your prize" nonsense. bugs the crap out of me when they hang the fuck up on me. i complained to my telephone company but they said since they are u.s. based companies that frequently change their operating location they are hard to shut down.

But why? If I had a car, were they going for the VIN # or to try and get my personal information? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Yes I get these calls all of the time for my car which I suspect they got my number from when I took my car into the dealership or maybe from the DMV. I've asked them to take me off the list but they still call. My guess is they are good old telemarketers sitting at some desk trying to make their daily quota for people they can sucker into believing there pitch if that person happen to own the same make and model of car they are calling about. I wouldn't worry about it. To Sir, with Love

This is very common. Many of these companies use an autodialer that just feeds phone numbers from a generic database. Often the numbers come from your city, state, and federal agencies. It's a numbers game. Also, many outbound call centers do not allow inbound calls. I don't think it's fraud though cuz I get that call at least once a month.
@ you though for tracking their asses down cuz he was rude.

DigMeNow said: You can register your telephone number on the National Do Not Call Registry at
www.donotcall.gov or you can call and register at 1-888-382-1222. Once your telephone number is registered for at least 31 days you can file a complaint about the company that called you by providing their telephone or name of the company. I've registered my telephone number about a 2 months and the calls have have almost stopped completely. I believe I received one telemarketing call since then. I've been registered on this list for YEARS and regularly re-register. But it seems that in recent months the calls have increased so I think there's some kind of loophole for some of these companies.

Sort of, but in reverse.
I got a message on my home phone a month ago that went something like this: "Hi, I'm sorry to call you with no notice, but it's vital that I tell you that you are loved and are important. I just felt it was necessary to tell you how much you mean to the people that love you. Thanks, and have a great day!" Best message I've ever received, and I will never erase it! So I ran the number on caller ID to see who or what organization this was, spreading this incredible joy, but the number (which, I think had an area code like 239) "is not a working number".

i used to get these calls all the time on my old cell phone. One day I called them back to tell them that I did not own a car and that they had the wrong number and got pretty much the same response as you did.
I also just called the number you posted and got a busy signal.

I find that message on my answering machine almost every day when I come home. Each time it says this is the final notice to renew my warrantee. I must have gotten 50 final notices already.
I also get a bunch of other spam voice messages on my home phone each day. I don't even answer the phone at home anymore. I have all the ringers turned down in my apartment as well as the volume on the answering machine and delete all messages at the end of each month. If anyone wants to talk to me, they call me on my cell.
