I agree, there were parts that I thought were full of suspense--like when Tom thought he was being followed. The creepy music really helped too. The only scene I had a problem with was when Tom gets harrassed by the frat boys for looking too gay. Anyone that knows New York City knows that the one neighborhood where frat boys would NOT be picking a fight with gays is the West Village. But that's extremely minor. I watch this movie during the holidays every year.

Anxiety said: i know there's a movie ending that pisses me off far more, but the ending of that spielberg "AI" movie was lame. It should have ended with the robot kid stranded underwater staring at the blue fairy. all that crap about the far future and getting discovered by people who look like big walking spoons was really unnecessary and it felt tacked on.
I always hit the STOP button at the blue fairy. Steven has gone on the record that it was always Kubricks idea to jump ahead to the future with that ending. He even said he gets flack for something Kubrick had in the story in the first place. I really question this. For me it seems as though the movie is Kubrick up to where his mom leaves him in the forest and then it's a blend of Kuberik and Spielberg. But the end seems totally Spielberg to me. And it's easy to blame the dead guy on the crappy part of the movie. Christian Zombie Vampires

Shoooo, I could have watched THAT and the 4 minute trailor that gave away oh..everything and been done with it!
Not as bad as Vanilla Sky ending but still. WHY THE FUCK DOES EVERYONE HATE VANILLA SKY?! Because it was trying to be clever and intelligent and it never really was. It was for people who had a hard time with Momento. It also was based on the "Twist". And I simply didn't buy it. It was like saying It was all a dream or something. Watched it last weekend and it just ENDED. Like, right THERE. And it was one of those "it's up to you what happens!" endings, which Im really starting to hate in movies. I liked the ending. I would have added one last shot (Him closing the world in his hand) to make it perfect. Christian Zombie Vampires

Depends on what the ultimate message of the movie was supposed to be. Having it end with the kid underwater and staring at the blue fairy, wishing to be real so he could be loved, would definitely have given a much different message than the one that was given. The ending it has now, as goofy as it was, emphasized the constant of love, how true love really never diminishes, and the role faith plays in finding it. It also showed the "fake" love of robot boy as ultimately being more real that the love we humans tend to hand out and expect back. NO!!!!! It sucked

I found this on AI. Makes no sense!
In an interview with film critic Mark Kermode on The Culture Show broadcast on November 4 2006, Spielberg responded to some of the criticisms of the film, stating that many of the so called 'sentimental' elements of the film, including the ending, were in fact Kubrick's and vice-versa the darker elements were his own. In a late 2007 interview, the director revealed he felt it was his darkest film Again given what we know filmwise from both of these guys, I simply can't see that the darker tones with Stevens and the Lighter moments were Kuberick's Christian Zombie Vampires

I was okay with the twist, but when they start blowing things up real good, it just became a parody, and not a good one. Kubrick was trying to make a very different film and challenge himself. He was also very insecure about how well he could pull it off...according to those that were working with him. Let's look at Spielberg's films like Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, or Munich... and you can see how he uses some darker colors in his palette. Read about various Kubrick attempts at tests and theories about how the film shold be made. It was described as always jumping 1000 of years in the future when men are dead. I might as well go all in and say that I hate David Fincher's work (except for Panic Room). I hate what he did with the third Alien movie, and I really loathe Seven and The Game (speaking of terrible endings).
