It's official. FRIDAY THE 13TH is being remade.

Bay pumps news blood into "Friday the 13th"

Tue Oct 02, 3:00 AM ET

"Transformers" director Michael Bay is reviving the "Friday the 13th" franchise through his low-budget production company.

The remake of the original 1980 horror classic, which turned the villainous Jason into a cultural icon, is being produced for New Line Cinema by Bay's Platinum Dunes banner. Platinum Dunes was also behind the revival of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Hitcher."

In the original "Friday the 13th," the serial killer made only a brief appearance in the final frames and never killed anyone. Jason didn't even don the famous mask until the third movie. The remake, however, will focus on Jason -- who will wear the mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift will write the script. They wrote 2003's "Freddy vs. Jason," the killer's last big-screen appearance. That film grossed more than $82 million domestically.

I had been hearing rumors about this for the longest. The thought of Jason being remade irks me, because it's a classic slasher movie. You can't improve Jason imo. lol I'll definitely be first in line to go see it, but I hope it flops....big time. mad I'm just so sick of these directors remaking classic horrors. And just great... the same people who made Freddy vs Jason are making this film. disbelief Jason X and Freddy vs. Jason were the worst.....didn't they get a clue.

They really need to stop. Isn't Hollywood supposed to be about being creative. I guess it's just about money. C'mon. It's either a remake or a sequal these days. I'm sick of it.

Oh Lord! They already remade HALLOWEEN with Michael Myers. Now they're remaking FRIDAY THE 13TH? Mark my words People, Freddy Krueger and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is next.

I was never a huge Freddy fan, so that one wouldn't bother me so much. After pt. 2, Freddy kinda went down hill.

Yeah, or they should at least pick obscure heavily flawed horrors.....not classics.

If the same writers who wrote Freddy vs. Jason use their same approach, then I'm pretty sure it'll be ruined.

I really don't understand the point of remaking a movie that already has 1000 sequels w/ the exact same story. I always knew Michael Bay was a hack but this is ridiculous even for him neutral

Unnecessary. I hate (most) remakes (with the exception of the "Night of the Living Dead").

...I like "Freddy vs. Jason", though.

Freddy VS Jason I thought was good...i guess i was the only one.

I eblieve they should only remake Friday The 13th pt.s V, VII and VIII...in which they were....terrible....oh and jason X should just be written off

Freddy vs. Jason was fun.

Friday the 13th was cool, but it wasn't that great. Why not remake it? What's the harm? It doesn't mean the original won't exist anymore.

Anyway, to the haters saying Hollywood needs to stop: They've been re-making films and turning out sequel after sequel since the movie industry began. I'm sure people were pissed when they were re-making "Ben-Hur" too. biggrin And how many fucking Tarzan films did they make? What about Topper? They're STILL making Bond films, and the last one was the best one I've seen in many years!

A Friday the 13th redo might actually be great. It can't be worse than any Jason film past part 2. lol

lol Kinda true for some horrors.....but the the fun of sequels is knowing the villain is invincible, and gonna last for a new part. I think Bay should just make a new part rather than cast it off as a remake. Either make a new part or leave it alone, imo. At least by saying it's a new part, you kinda have leeway to be more creative as opposed to working with the original storyline.

lol

Part 3 was one of my favorites.....Jason got his mask and the theme song rocked. I actually liked all parts up to Manhattan. Jason X just plained flat out sucked....any time a horror movie goes outer space, I know I'm in for it. I know remakes have existed since forever. They seem to be remaking my personal favorites though. I mean, really everytime you turn around.....remake. The use of remakes couldn't have been as out of hand back then as it is now. From my observation, it's almost like directors are trying to see who can be the most gruesome, just because my generation likes very gory horrors. Ex: Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These directors are thinking they're improving these movies.....they're only improving the film quality and increasing the amount of blood and gore imo. I highly doubt this remake is gonna be better than the original especially with the writers being used for it. I love sequels, sequels I have no problem with. I was actually hoping for a Halloween sequel instead of Rob's version, because Halloween still had a plot line left to work with. I mean fans are still left dangling with the whole Jamie's baby issue.....Michael's only bloodline.
