Friday the 13th was cool, but it wasn't that great. Why not remake it? What's the harm? It doesn't mean the original won't exist anymore. Anyway, to the haters saying Hollywood needs to stop: They've been re-making films and turning out sequel after sequel since the movie industry began. I'm sure people were pissed when they were re-making "Ben-Hur" too. And how many fucking Tarzan films did they make? What about Topper? They're STILL making Bond films, and the last one was the best one I've seen in many years! A Friday the 13th redo might actually be great. It can't be worse than any Jason film past part 2. My post has gotten eaten up more than once ! At any rate... While it's true that remakes (and sequels, which I'm also not particularly fond of in most cases) don't cause any real harm, and that the industry has been making them for a while, that doesn't mean that everyone has to like it. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but it's more about not seeing the point in fixing something that, in my opinion, wasn't broken in the first place. Also there's a certain amount of concern on my part about the originals being forgotten, and, in the case of a poor remake, disrespecting and tarnishing the memory/legacy of the original film. Irrational, I know, but that's how I feel. Hopefully I'm making sense. I liked "Freddy vs. Jason" too, but God forbid, they remake the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series (or even just the first film). A while back, I did read about a possible prequel though - I'd actually like to see that happen, as long as Robert Englund plays Freddy.

The remake of the original 1980 horror classic, which turned the villainous Jason into a cultural icon, is being produced for New Line Cinema by Bay's Platinum Dunes banner. Platinum Dunes was also behind the revival of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Hitcher." In the original "Friday the 13th," the serial killer made only a brief appearance in the final frames and never killed anyone. Jason didn't even don the famous mask until the third movie. The remake, however, will focus on Jason -- who will wear the mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift will write the script. They wrote 2003's "Freddy vs. Jason," the killer's last big-screen appearance. That film grossed more than $82 million domestically. Reuters/Hollywood Reporter http://entertainment.tv.y...21100.html ----- I had been hearing rumors about this for the longest. The thought of Jason being remade irks me, because it's a classic slasher movie. You can't improve Jason imo. I'll definitely be first in line to go see it, but I hope it flops....big time. I'm just so sick of these directors remaking classic horrors. And just great... the same people who made Freddy vs Jason are making this film. Jason X and Freddy vs. Jason were the worst.....didn't they get a clue. Freddy VS Jason I thought was good...i guess i was the only one. I eblieve they should only remake Friday The 13th pt.s V, VII and VIII...in which they were....terrible....oh and jason X should just be written off Part 5.....with Dudley from Different Strokes? Nooooo! That part was hilarious, but the ending was kinda disappointing. You're right about Jason X, it's the only part I can barely tolerate watching. Jason Goes to Hell was pretty out there too as far as storyline, but nowhere near as bad as Jason X. I wasn't too crazy about the whole Jason morphing from person to person.....corny. I could still tolerate watching it though. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

I implored him to watch the original prior to the remake's release. He sat down for about 20 minutes of it and said it was 'low budget and boring'. Okay, low budget, yeah... but boring?

C'mon you don't even like the "ch-ch- ch- ha-ha ha"? I like the seriousness of Halloween, and I don't see that in Friday the 13th, which is why I don't see them as being too similar. I thought the whole Jason drowning and having his mom avenge his death on camp conselors was pretty original for it's time. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

I'm really surprised Rosemary's Baby isn't being remade. Directors seem to go for the more popular horrors for some reason. As far as My Bloody Valentine, they did that movie Valentine a few years back with Denise Richards.....not really a remake, but used the same psycho killer on the loose on V-Day theme. I really wouldn't be surprised if they remade that one either. Suspiria's a little more surreal.....not sure these new directors wanna tackle that one. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Who's directing this one? Will Smith,, Will Smith's Karate Kid http://people.monstersand...Karate_Kid Will Smith's son Jaden is set to star in a remake of cult classic 'The Karate Kid'. Will's nine-year-old son is being lined up to play Daniel LaRusso in a new version of the popular 1984 film, with Jackie Chan as his martial arts mentor Mr. Miyagi. It is rumoured the 'Men In Black' star is set to make his directorial debut and helm the movie. Will's production company Overbrook Entertainment will produce alongside Jerry Weintraub, producer of the original film. The 'Karate Kid' follows youngster Daniel, who learns karate to help cope with school bullies. The first 'Karate Kid' - which starred Ralph Macchio as Daniel and the late Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi - was so successful it spawned three sequels, the most recent being 'The Next Karate Kid', in 1994. Jaden proved his acting talent last year when he earned rave reviews opposite his dad in 'The Pursuit of Happyness'. Sony Pictures have confirmed the project is in the initial planning stages. Jason X just plained flat out sucked....any time a horror movie goes outer space, I know I'm in for it. I know remakes have existed since forever. They seem to be remaking my personal favorites though. I mean, really everytime you turn around.....remake. The use of remakes couldn't have been as out of hand back then as it is now. From my observation, it's almost like directors are trying to see who can be the most gruesome, just because my generation likes very gory horrors. Ex: Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These directors are thinking they're improving these movies.....they're only improving the film quality and increasing the amount of blood and gore imo. I highly doubt this remake is gonna be better than the original especially with the writers being used for it. I love sequels, sequels I have no problem with. I was actually hoping for a Halloween sequel instead of Rob's version, because Halloween still had a plot line left to work with. I mean fans are still left dangling with the whole Jamie's baby issue.....Michael's only bloodline. I enjoyed part 5 aka the new beginning..to be honest first time watched it i didnt know about the fake jason theory, how can the imposter take all those shots and kept coming back? lol Alice Cooper mashed it so good for Jason 6 with "He's Back" ! I agree, why dont they think of something new Although the movie 30 Days of Night may not be an original concept, I can't wait until it comes out. They better not blow it. I wonder if they'll reproduce the shock ending of the original, seeing as everybody will expect it and thereby render the ending pointless. Anyway, I'm going to give my post a (rather predictable) shock ending, just like the 1980 original did...

I suggest everybody else who posts on this thread does the same. That's why I'm not crazy about remaking movies with surprise endings or twists. You're right, it ruins the flow of the movie. If you're really young and haven't seen the originals, then yeah I guess you'd have no issues with it. At the end of the day, it's basically about money. These directors know that the loyal fanbase will come out to support the movie regardless to compare it to the original, and they know they're also bringing in the younger crowd who may not have seen or even know about the original. $$$$ looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)
