OMG..that looked like my Willie when he was a pup but the breeder had already given him a Schnauzer cut before my mom got him so I never saw him all fluffy.

Willie has never liked kids confused

A guy my husband worked with had to go out of town for 2 weeks and asked us to dog sit for him. I thought it would be a great way to kind of "test" out having a dog in the house and to see how the kids reacted. The dog was a mini and she was the sweetest, most lovable dog. I fell in love with that dog and would have kept her if I could've. All the minis I've ever encountered have been sweet to my kids. I'm sure there are always exceptions to the rule.

Has your dog ever been around kids? Do you think that if a dog is raised with kids then it's more likely that they'll do OK?

Willie was around kids when he was about 1 year old until about 3 years old and he just never liked them around his toys. As he got older he did not like them anywhere in the house. Willie has always been very hyper and anxious..even now at 13 yrs old. It all depends on the dog really and the kids even though we worked with the kids when he was pup and they did not tease him or abuse him.
Personally for me I would never have another small dog.
All dogs and all breeds have their issues but a lot of it comes down to training.
I do think it is very important to raise children around animals and pets so they do not fear them. Teach them how to care, respect and understand animals.

I agree about the training and teaching the kids. My older son loves anything to do with dogs. For the past two years he's said he wants to be vet. He gets upset if we have to kill a bug in the house. lol He's very kindhearted and just loves animals. I think he'll be fine. He's almost 8. My other son is almost 5, but I think he'll be a little harder. I think he might be wanting to play, but be too rough. I've always been a proponent of responsible pet ownership. Our neighbors like to let their dogs run and they always use my yard as their pooping grounds. neutral

I have no idea what he is. lol

I've been told that he is a schnauzer cross, a poodle cross, a maltese cross, a chinese crested cross, a bichon cross, a westie cross and on and on...I just have pick one I guess. shrug

hmm

lol

My most favorite dog as a child was mixed breed. That was the best dog ever. Does your little guy just love him? Take some cutie pics of him with the dog and share with me. biggrin

Chinese crested come in white as well as hairless.

Although his fur is white, Rocco is covered in spots like a crested from head to toe. It's pretty cute.

If I were to shave him bald he would look exactly like this guy.

I have a 13 year old Schnauzer you can have...oh damn..I guess I should not have told you that he does not like children...

Though I joke and I am stressing over him big time at the moment..I love him dearly. He is a part of the family now but in saying that..he is so bad not even his grammy will watch him for me though he was originally her dog.

Pet ownership is a serious thing and it is a life long commitment.

I did not realize they could come with hair. lol

Have you ever seen/heard of the world's ugliest dog contest? It is so insane how ugly some of those dogs are. A lot of them are hairless.

Oh yes..now I see both of them. We used to raise labs when I was a kid, I love them. I had Willie at the vet last week to get some things sorted for his trip. A guy brought in a really old sick black lab. He pulled her in and sat her down right next to me...the look in her eyes just killed me. She was so sad and done fighting. I started to bawl...I felt so bad for him and for her because she was suffering.
He took her into the room and about 20 mins later came out and left without her.

comfort

Me too..I have two dogs that my ex kept at the house since he has a huge yard and they are happier there.
I have not seen them for over 6 months...I miss them more than anything in this entire world.
The only thing that comforts me is that he loves the one more than anything and I know he is well cared for and the other one is happy just to be fed and have the other dog to play with.
It comes down to what is best for them.

part of me would love to go say goodbye to them before I leave then the other part of me says bad idea..for all of us.
I have lots of pics and wonderful memories.

Awww I am so sorry (cannot believe that was 6 months)...I know that must still be so hard. I know my time is going to come with Willie. Seeing that dog the other day just broke my heart.
when he came out I just wanted to comfort him but since he was a stranger I thought I better not..I could not tell what was going on really..he might have left her there for observation ( I pray not...she was so sick and could not walk). he looked right at me when he came out without her - I gave him a look as if to say I was sorry and felt for him. I watched him leave..

sad yeah, at least they're happy and being taken care of. it's kinda like that with the dogs my family has; one is spoiled and has all the attention given to her, and the other one gets somewhat ignored unless i'm home. but i can't separate them, and where i live now is way too small. sigh
