He was already very old for a dachshund (16 years) so I was aware that he might soon pass away. But not the way it happened. I was walking him one afternoon in my neighborhood, when all of a sudden from round the corner a huge pitbull jumped out (without a muzzle) and snapped my poor old dog by his neck. At first I froze in place and then started kicking that damn beast wherever I could (which was not very smart, but I was not thinking very clearly at that moment). The pitbull finally let go and my dog somehow survived. However, when I brought him home I noticed that his neck was in a bad shape. Suddenly his whole body started filling with air (pneumoserothorax). I could see fear in his eyes as he begun to choke. Without much of a thought I grabbed him and took him to the nearest clinic, where they pumped out the air from under his skin and tested his whole body. It turned out that he had several holes in his aorta. He had to be operated. Even though the operation when well, every next day new holes would appear (enlarged by the air pressure) and he would have to be operated once again. That happened 4 times before his old heart couldn't take it anymore. He died on my arms. I have never cried this hard. He was with me since I was 5. Now I had to bury him in our backyard. Crying my heart out, I dug up a huge whole and where his fragile, fatigued, sewed up body was to put to rest in peace. It still makes my eyes teary when I think about the way he passed. Shit, here it comes again I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt. | |
