How are my BRITS doing *Flood thread*

Are there many of you affected by the recent floods? I think J.D. mentioned that his family was a while ago.

I wish you all the best. Be careful!

Thanks, nobody seemed to notice nor care (as I can even see from one or two crass comments) here when I originally mentioned it so I appreciate it. Sheffield where I live was badly hit when the first initial torrential down pour happened. Lots of people have had to evacuate their homes and businesses have been lost. Although the rain has ceased to stop, luckily we personally were not hit so bad. My Dad lost some of his work and couldnt go into work for about the week. My Mum also suffered the same.

As a nation we seem to have an inability to cope sufficiently with floods. I can't say I'm surprised that they hit us. There were weather warnings months ago. I guess it's mainly down to global warming changing weather patterns. What worries me is that the government hasn't really gotten to grips with responding to the floods and how to help the victims of it.

See below some of the photos my friends have put up from their Facebook accounts...

Does regular house insurance cover damage caused by flooding or does it count as force majeure? I just realized I've never looked into that.

Well its all very much up in the air. There was a couple from a town not far from me who had to evacuate their house which also was a post office. They were told that they could not claim on their insurance. Only recently has that decision been reversed. I dont know the ins and outs of it but probably the insurance company wanted to cover its' back.

I think so and reading between the lines I think that's why the couple in question were initially refused their claim. Terrible really.

So if there is no general rule then maybe it depends on the terms of each insurance contract? Also, maybe one has to meet certain requirements (like having flood blockers in the drains, proper sewage system etc) to be qualified for flood coverage? Hmm, I should really look into this. hmmm

Yeah, when force majeure is involved the insurance companies usually get off the hook, although there are exceptions from what I've heard.

Fauxie

My parents, who live near Cheltenham, said they had not clean tap water, though since they live in Woodmancote in the hills I doubt they actually had flooding where they are. Cheltenham itself was hit though. The pics I've seen on the BBC website look pretty bad. Hopefully everyone affected by this will get back on their feet again.

We've just returned from a break in the Bristol area and luckily avoided all the flooding... though the local news reports were of devastation all around.

On the way back the news report was of two people dying through fume inhalation while trying to pump water from Tewksbury Rugby Club.

Shit JD, I didn't think, I'm sorry.

Thanks Miguel, a true carer as always hug

I am rather embarrased to say we are high and dry at the top of an old city built on a hill.

As far as I am aware there have only been a few fatalities, and most of the news coverage has been in regard to money!!
Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!
