I don't know anymore... I think there are people who fit you for certain times in your life... I think some of us actually hook up w/ our soulmates & that's all beautiful & shit, but not all of us are meant to experience that unfortunately. So if there IS someone for everyone, yet not everyone finds that someone, what's the fucking point? So I dunno if I believe it anymore...

i used to believe that there was only one man i could ever love like we did.... my "one". we even used that term. "you are my one". it was beautiful. but that isn't true.... i know we will both love again, perhaps even deeper than before. there is not "one" person for each of us, there is not "one" great love of our lifetime. there are people who come into our lives and touch us in a beautiful way. some stay, others go. some of those people who touch us feel like the one love of a lifetime, but i believe that even if things go wrong with that "one" love both will love again, when properly healed and the time is right.

yes, but I dont think theres just one though. Maybe one for a romantic relationship, one for friendship, etc....

I am one of the lucky ones who found a perfect fit for me...I am truly blessed.

I really feel for those who haven't found a perfect companion for themselves.
I'm not just talkin' about orgers, but I see this first-hand, with my family.

I think there can be a difference between your 'One" and someone that can be a soul mate. Me and my ex were soul mates in a friendship way and when it came to nature, love of our pets and politically our souls were connected. I mistook those commonalities for love and in ten years I have learned to recognize the difference between a real love relationship and a deep friendship.

I used to believe in the 'One' until one of my mates explained her theory:

Let's just say you look for five specific things in a bloke/woman, for example:

1. Looks
2. Personality
3. Sense Of Humour
4. Occupation
5. Money

These are not my choices exactly but you may meet someone who ticks boxes 1, 2, 3 & 4. Or someone who ticks boxes 1, 3, 4 & 5. Or 1, 2, 4 & 5. And so on. There could be any combination. Obviously, if you meet someone who ticks all five boxes - amazing! But I think you can connect with different people, in different ways, and still have that deep connection. It depends on what you are looking for.

And, of course, there's that simple matter of chemistry and mutual attraction. Or 'mind meld', as Charlotte puts it. You can have that with friends, lovers, whoever - I think soul mates are not limited to who you are romantically involved with. Although in my case, just for once, that would be nice.

If people believe in the 'One', more power to them. I think it's an absolutely beautiful concept. But going back to what I said earlier, maybe I'm just too cynical/realistic but out of six billion people to choose from, you would have to be exceptionally lucky to be in the same place, at the same time, as that other person on that tiny spot of this planet. I think there are other factors which determine whether these things blossom or not.

lemme say that even though I responded to that "Are You Cynical" thread, I am not a cynic. I just tend to feel sexually transient every once in awhile.

I do... I even have all "the boxes" (as onenitealone put it),ticked. I also had to add some boxes to that list. He's what I want, what i need and what I never looked for... I consider us blessed to have waded through all the BullShyt of 6 million people and found one another.
