I have a true story-my cat Daphne got lost 2x ,once he was injured, never did find out how, but suspected a car hit him, and the second time I found him across the street disoriented after he had been missing 5 days...needless to say, I was upset, so I got a harness and leash, I would walk him, but he always wanted to stay out longer than I so, we tied his leash to a log LOL in the yard, and he could move it but didnt realize this, so he stayed in yard. Periodicaaly I would go out and move log to different area of yard. (Definately use the breakaway version and keep an eye on the cat).

We have since moved, our new neighborhood is less busy, he stays in yard and comes in when called (most of the time)

Wow, such hostility to my comments about walking cats. I'm not a fan of cats being walked on harnesses or leashes, but that's my personal opinion on the matter. Now, I would much rather see a cat walked on a harness or a leash than carried in a pillow case, which I saw today. Three cats in pillowcases came in for their shots and I immediately thought back to this thread. Don't get angry cat lovers. I love cats too. Here is my peace offering. Let's call her Sparkles. She can be the Org cat. If walking your kitty on a harness or leash makes you happy and the cat is comfortable, who cares about my little opinion.

I expect my cat to bring me my morning paper.

My cat absolutely loves being walked with her leash/harness. She's even brought it to me, like a dog would. I have a little carrying bag for her, and when she gets in it, she freaks until we get in the car. She LOVES riding in the car. I've even let her out in the car, while we're driving, and she sits in the back window and has fallen asleep before.

But I understand that not all cats enjoy this. Even her vet has expressed his amazement of how well she does with a leash/harness. I like it because she's an indoor cat, so this way she gets to experience a little bit of life outside of our apartment.

Have tried to walk her Teacher...but, she knows her lead only goes so far so, it's mostly a pick her up and put her down in spots ..

I think someday she'll get the hang of it tho...
