Rams do Seahawks a favor
The Rams restored some order to the NFC West by beating the 49ers today. Seattle's upset loss at San Francisco put some wind in the 49ers. Now the Rams and 49ers are both 5-6. Seattle can jump back out to two-games by beating the Packers on Monday night. Right now it's still Seattle's division. [Edited 11/26/06 14:09pm]

Seahawks vs. Packers - Game Preview
SEAHAWKS vs. PACKERS GAME AT A GLANCE The Seattle Seahawks (6-4) return to Qwest Field this week for their second Monday Night Football game in four weeks when they host the Green Bay Packers (4-6). Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. PT. The Seahawks are 4-1 at Qwest Field this season and are 12-1 at home since the start of 2005. Seattle will try and avenge a 20-14 loss last week at San Francisco while Green Bay will be fueled to make up for a 35-0 home loss to the New England Patriots. This week, Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren will match up against his former team for the fifth time, including playoffs, since becoming head coach of the Seahawks. It will be the first time the Seahawks have hosted the Packers since Holmgren took the reins in Seattle. Mike Holmgren began his head coaching career with Green Bay and led the Packers to two Super Bowl appearances, including a 35-21 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. His regular-seasonrecord was 75-37. Holmgren won his very first trip back to Lambaeu Field on November 1, 1999, a 27-7 win also on Monday Night Football. In 2003, the Packers won a regular-season contest before knocking the Seahawks out of the playoffs in a dramatic overtime thriller. The Seahawks and Packers played at Lambeau Field in last year’s season finale. With home-field advantage during the playoffs wrapped up with a 13-2 record, Seattle’s starters only played most of the first half, and Green Bay held on for a 23-17 victory. That loss snapped a franchise record 11-game winning streak by the Seahawks. This will be the 11th regular-season game - 12th including playoffs - in which these two teams have met, with the Packers leading the regular-season series 6-4, and 1-0 in the lone playoff matchup. The Packers won the first three games ever played from 1976-81 while the Seahawks won the next three from 1984-90. Green Bay last played in Seattle in 1996 resulting in a Packers victory. Seattle won in 1999 and lost in 2003. In 10 games versus the Packers, eight have been played in Wisconsin, including the 1976, 1978 and 1990 games in Milwaukee. Seattle is 3-5 in those games. NFL Preview: Green Bay (4-6) at Seattle (6-4)
(Sports Network) - Brett Favre's mind-boggling streak of consecutive starts is expected to continue on Monday night, when he leads the Green Bay Packers onto Qwest Field to battle the Seattle Seahawks. Favre started his 251st straight game (regular season & playoffs) last week against the New England Patriots, but left the tilt for good after injuring a nerve in his right elbow in the second quarter. Aaron Rodgers came into replace Favre, before having his season ended with a broken left foot. Green Bay signed veteran backup Todd Bouman to take over for Rodgers in the No. 2 QB slot. The Packers wound up losing the game to the Pats, 35-0, and Favre completed just 5-of-15 passes for 73 yards. Meanwhile, Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren will host his former employer and his old friend Favre in the primetime affair. Holmgren was a rookie head coach with the Packers in 1992 when Favre posted the first start in his amazing string. Seattle is expecting to have QB Matt Hasselbeck in the starting lineup on Monday after he missed the last four games with a strained right knee. Hasselbeck is listed as probable for this week's game. Last week, the Seahawks had running back Shaun Alexander in the lineup for the first time since late September, and still lost, 20-14, at San Francisco. SERIES HISTORY Green Bay owns a 6-4 lead in its all-time regular season series with Seattle, including home wins in both 2003 and 2005. The Packers downed the Seahawks, 23-17, in a Week 17 game last season when Seattle rested most of its starters after clinching the NFC's No. 1 seed. The Hawks last defeated the Packers in 1999, when they prevailed at Lambeau Field by a 27-7 count. Green Bay is 1-1 all-time in Seattle, with a win there in 1996 and a loss at the Kingdome in 1987. In addition to the regular season series, the teams have faced off once in the playoffs, with Green Bay winning a 33-27 overtime matchup in a 2003 NFC First- Round Playoff. Holmgren is 1-3 against his former team, including the '03 playoff loss. The Packers' Mike McCarthy will be meeting both Holmgren and the Seahawks for the first time as a head coach. PACKERS OFFENSE VS. SEAHAWKS DEFENSE Favre was ineffective with a 50.1 QB rating in his injury-shortened game last week against the Patriots, but overall, he has had a solid season. The 37- year-old gunslinger has thrown for 2,368 yards with 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions this year. As a team, the Packers are the ninth-ranked passing offense in the NFL, with 233.5 yards through the air per game. Wide receiver Donald Driver (58 catches, 813 yards, 4 TD) had a subpar game last week, but still led Green Bay with two catches for 42 yards. Greg Jennings (30 catches, 511 yards, 3 TD) added one reception for 26 yards, as the Packers completed just nine passes on the day. The Seahawks held San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith to 163 yards passing in last Sunday's loss, but that was mainly due to the fact that the 49ers simply pounded the ball on the ground. Smith actually ended with a 105.9 QB rating after completing 19-of-25 passes for one touchdown and no interceptions. Seattle is second in the NFL with 35 sacks, but the pass-rushers only managed to drop Smith once as Chartric Darby brought his season sack total to 3 1/2. The cornerback duo of Marcus Trufant (44 tackles) and Kelly Herndon (50 tackles) made nine and seven tackles, respectively. Seattle is ranked 19th in passing defense this season with 212.7 yards allowed through the air every week. The Packers' rushing offense has been less than prolific this season, and is currently ranked 20th in the NFL with 104.1 yards per game. They didn't even come close to that average last week, as the Patriots held Green Bay to just 43 yards on the ground. Packers leading rusher Ahman Green (644 yards, 3 TD) carried the ball 13 times for just 28 yards and the backup QB Rodgers was next with 11 yards on two scrambles. Green has rushed for a total of 83 yards in the last two games after posting three consecutive 100-yard games in his previous three outings. Vernand Morency had just one carry for five yards versus the Pats, but is second on the team this season with 235 yards rushing. Seattle's run defense was a strength for the team during its 2005 NFC championship, but the team showed no signs of that prowess against the 49ers a week ago. San Fran racked up 262 yards on the ground and averaged a whopping 7.7 yards per carry. Frank Gore was the main culprit for the Niners, posting a team-record 212 yards rushing on 24 carries. Free safety Ken Hamlin (65 tackles, 3 INT, 2 sacks) was forced to creep up from the secondary often and ended with a team-high 12 tackles. Linebackers Lofa Tatupu (79 tackles, 1 INT, 1/2 sack) and Leroy Hill (60 tackles, 2 sacks) each made 10 stops in the setback. The Seahawks are 17th in the NFL in rushing defense with 117.8 yards allowed per game, or slightly over 23 more rushing yards per contest than last year. SEAHAWKS OFFENSE VS. PACKERS DEFENSE Seneca Wallace has done an admirable job in four starts as Hasselbeck's replacement this year, but his worst performance in that stretch came last week. Wallace (927 yards, 8 TD, 7 INT) threw for 252 yards and pair of touchdowns, but was also picked off three times. From that standpoint, this is probably a good time to get Hasselbeck back into the starting QB spot. Hasselbeck had thrown for over 3,000 yards in each of his previous four seasons and was on pace to do it again before the injury. In six games this season, he has thrown for 1,249 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Hasselbeck will have his old favorite target to throw the ball to in wide receiver Darrell Jackson, who leads Seattle this year in catches (50), receiving yards (785) and TD receptions (8). Fellow wideout Deion Branch (31 catches, 457 yards, 4 TD) has also done well since being coming over in a trade with New England back in September. Overall this year, Seattle is ranked 20th in the NFL with 193.4 passing yards per game. Green Bay's secondary put up very little resistance against Tom Brady and the Patriots aerial attack last week, and the three-time Pro Bowl QB ended the day with a stellar 128.2 passer rating. Brady connected on 20-of-31 passes for 244 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Defensive end Kabeer Gbaja- Biamila (24 tackles, 4 sacks) and Colin Cole (24 tackles, 1 sack) each posted a sack. Cole's sack caused Brady to fumble, but the Patriots wound up recovering the ball. Strong safety Marquand Manuel (61 tackles, 1 sack) led the secondary with 10 tackles, while four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Charles Woodson (37 tackles, 2 INT, 1 sack) made four stops. Green Bay is 31st in the NFL this season with 241.3 passing yards allowed per game. Last week the Seahawks were just happy to have their franchise running back on the field, but they would probably like to see more production out of him on Monday night. Alexander (224 yards, 2 TD) made his return against the 49ers last Sunday after missing six straight games with a fractured bone in left foot, and managed just 37 rushing yards on 17 carries. Alexander, who was voted the league's MVP by the Associated Press in 2005, has yet to rush for 100 yards in four games this season and is averaging just 2.7 yards per carry. Maurice Morris (523 yards) was the main option with Alexander out of the lineup, but carried the ball just two times for 12 yards against the 49ers. The Packers didn't have the ball on offense for very long last week, and that's because the defense was worn down by an effective, but not overly productive, New England running game. The Patriots held the ball on offense for over 39 minutes thanks to 122 yards rushing on 40 carries (3.1 yards per attempt). Rookie Laurence Maroney led the way with 82 yards on 19 rushes. Packers rookie outside linebacker A.J. Hawk was very busy on the day, notching 12 of his team-leading 80 tackles. Defensive tackle Ryan Pickett (37 tackles) and outside linebacker Brady Poppinga (41 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT) each posted five stops in the loss. OVERALL ANALYSIS The Seahawks have battled through some major injuries this year, and should be happy to still be in first place in the NFC West. Now, for the first time in nearly two months, they will have their No. 1 quarterback and running back on the same field. Seattle will also be glad to be back at Qwest Field, where it is 4-1 this season. Green Bay will likely have Favre under center and that's a good sign, but it won't be enough to lead the Pack to victory.

Monday Traffic Alert
To minimize downtown congestion due to outbound commuter traffic and inbound game traffic, fans are STRONGLY URGED to arrive at Qwest Field at least 90 minutes prior to kickoff to avoid parking delays and overcrowding at the gates. There's a game in there somewhere. The NFL Network has vowed to have its game coverage focus on games. ESPN is taking the show-business approach. Here's what they have planned for Monday night: Jimmy Kimmel will visit the booth during the second quarter (Michael Richards apparently unavailable); Shaun Alexander and Julian Peterson will introduce Seattle's starting lineups; Ahman Green and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila will handle the Packers' lineups; Peterson will wear a microphone during the game; Tyra Banks will be the "featured celebrity in ESPN's MNF Transformation open that kicks off the telecast" (not sure what that means); Monday Night Countdown featuring mike-up exchanges involving Brett Favre and Mike Holmgren over the years; and a coffee-shop tour featuring Matt Hasselbeck with soccer's Julie Foudy. The highlight will probably be Kenny Mayne's "light-hearted look at the great lengths that are taken to get footballs ready for Favre before a game." Kickoff vs. Green Bay is at 5:30 pm.
