I'm going to do the exact opposite of what most orgers have done and rather than watch it or say I'm going to watch it shortly, I'm just going to review it based on your avatar, your past postings, and my mood today.

Shite. biggrin

Kidding. I'll take a look later. smile

i am guessing none of us would really like that reality either

i am suitably impressed mister...
when i think of the complexities of creating and bringing a story to life!

i love the shot overhead that follows her down the street and then pans up to the dark and quiet sky. it's interesting to get a glimpse into the technical side with stories like the synching of footsteps.

the scene with the books... giggle

Like I said higher up on this thread: thank you very much for your comments! You always put a lot of time and effort in your words and you're very observant. I'm really glad you liked the film. hug

Sure! It might be a while before I do something in English again, but if I do I'll let you know (or if I can finally get my hands on some free and easy-to-use subtitling software so that I could show you my Swedish short films).

I didn't do the editing myself, someone else helped me with it. I basically gave her the shot list and the shot sheets in sequence so that it would be easy to piece together. Then every now and then she would show me her progress and I would comment on it. Overall I think she did a very good job. She should have a lot of credit for the sound and picture transitions in the wish list montage for example.

Final Cut pro?

Yup. That seems to be the only good editing software out there, if you ask the professionals. It's kind of annoying since it is the only major program that is still only available to Mac.

Why?

Seriously though, if you do this on a semi regular basis, have you thought about bringing them to the Edinburgh Film Festival? I really don't know what kind of work it would involve to show stuff there, but it's for amateuar as well as professional stuff, and it's pretty big confused

I thought it was charming! Well shot, considering the constraints, and nicely edited. The music was well chosen and unlike some others I actually didn't mind the actress or her voice. She looked like a cross between Drew Barrymore and Michael Schumacher. smile

Well I'm definitely not going to tell her that last part. lol

Thank you for considering the constraints. Most people are so used to watching blockbusters with 100M$ budgets, so when they see something like this it looks worse than shite in comparison. But considering that I had about fifteen seconds to set up the tripod every time we wanted to do a shot on the platform before a guard came by (we got sent off probably a dozen times), and considering that the lead actress was constantly falling asleep and the tiny handycam I was using kept quitting on me, I think the end result comes pretty damn close to being okay. So to hear that it's not just okay, but charming and well shot and edited, feels great! smile

And by the way, the music wasn't chosen, it was actually composed for this short film. Now that's production value! razz

I thought it was very good, all in all, though the disclaimer 'all in all' in itself would suggest some obvious shortcomings due to the constraints, and I don't think there really were any glaring ones. The premise was decent for a short film, it was put together nicely and the overall experience of watching the film was a good one. Good job!

p.s. Towards the end of the film, back on the platform, where the actress is looking sideways towards the camera - Michael Schumacher. nod lol

I rather like it. You have an excellent eye for shots, particularly in the station stuff and in some of the overlay double shots in the middle, particularly the writing appearing on it's own overlayed with her, and her lists of wants overlaying the wants as well. the shot of her sitting cross-legged in the middle of the street is quite nice too. the audio is very well mixed, it's very well edited, and some of the shots are really clever given your limitations (the opening dolly over to her feet and up her legs for example). if i may be so pompous sas to offer advice, long shots are always good when you have an isolated character in an expiremental like film. I would have loved to have seen her wandering the emptiness way back in the background with nothing but the empty street, the station around her. i would love to see more of your stuff, english or not. is there any more i can see?

I can take credit for the choice and execution of the shots themselves, but not for the transitions that you mention. That was done by the editor. I agree that she did a great job with that section.

the shot of her sitting cross-legged in the middle of the street is quite nice too.

cool

The editor's doing again. I should send her a link to this page! thumbs up!

"Dolly". Yeah, I wish! lol Seriously, that's a very nice thing to call it since it was just me with my handycam starting out on my hands and knees and then trying to get my creaky old joints to flex smoothly while I slowly got up to get her head too. To me it looks really shaky and amateurish, but I like the idea of the shot. And if you start out with a technically crappy shot, it can only get better after that, right? smile

Yeah, more wide shots would indeed have been great to have, but we just couldn't do it because of the circumstances: Since we didn't have any permits we couldn't stop neither people nor traffic, so we basically had to run out into the middle of the street (for example) and shoot guerilla style as soon as an area had temporarily been cleared. Even then there was lots of activity just beyond the edge of the frame on both sides, so I couldn't move back or pan sideways either. I'm glad we got as many "empty shots" as we did, because the difficult dilemma was that we wanted to shoot in places that looked like they would normally be crowded...and such places were of course crowded.

i would love to see more of your stuff, english or not. is there any more i can see?

touched I'm really glad to hear that. I do have a few films in Swedish that I'm more proud of than this one, but like I said higher up on this thread their not formatted or subtitled. You could always see them anyway, but you really lose the whole point if you can't understand the dialogue at all. I'll definitely post some when/if I can get hold of some subtitling software though.

Thank you very much for all your comments! You seem to really have paid attention to and enjoyed this little story. That means a lot to me.

what can i say? i am a total film geek. i notice everything, especially details.

i would love to see them with subtitles, but i am kind of curious to see them without as well, to see how it conveys the story without relying on dialogue.
