Good week.

jerseykrs and StarMon won week 1.

For those who are not happy with their picks from last week, remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. I think Starmon was "Mrw" last year, he had an unbelievable surge from last place to the top and then fell in one week. Anything can happen.

Tell me about it! I mean, you can say, "They're rebuilding... Honest!!!" only so many times, before people start laughing in your face.

For my girlfriend, that was until the third quarter. Today, she joked that they shouldn't even be an NFL team... doh!

Why it took Brooks a whole quarter to start throwing to Moss befuddled me, and had me thinking (sadly, conspiracy-wise) about the old Al Davis-Marcus Allen feud. I said, at one point: "Dang, Brooks and Moss must've had words before the game or something. 'Cuz he ain't passing to him at all!!!"

Stupid penalties hurt them the same way they hurt the Giants on Sunday. The offensive line needs some serious work to buy the QB more time (though Brooks might not be first-string too much longer) and the Chargers defense, to their credit, played very well.

N.F.L. Roundup From the NY Times.

Seahawks Add to Offense by Trading for Branch

http://www.nytimes.com/20...ref=sports

By CLIFTON BROWN
Published: September 12, 2006
After struggling offensively in their season opener, the Seattle Seahawks moved quickly yesterday, acquiring wide receiver Deion Branch from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2007 first-round draft pick.

Unhappy with his contract, Branch forced his way out of New England by holding out. The Patriots eventually gave Branch’s agent permission to seek a trade, and Branch is expected to sign a multiyear deal with the Seahawks.

New England Coach Bill Belichick sounded disappointed that the Patriots and Branch could not resolve their contract impasse.

“We tried hard, and Deion tried hard to make it work as well, but in the end it just didn’t work,” Belichick said during a news conference. “I think everybody dealt with it how they thought was best, both sides. It ended up the way it ended up.”

Branch caught 78 passes last season for 988 yards and 5 touchdowns, all career highs. Losing Branch, who was named most valuable player of Super Bowl XXXIX, will put added pressure on quarterback Tom Brady to carry the Patriots’ offense. New England is without its top two receivers from last season — Branch and David Givens, who signed with Tennessee as a free agent.

New England squeaked past Buffalo on Sunday, 19-17, and Brady completed only 11 of 23 passes for 163 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception. The Patriots acquired wide receiver Doug Gabriel from the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 2. Gabriel, in his fourth season, caught a career-high 37 passes last year. He was not active for Sunday’s game.

Holdouts often end with players agreeing to contract terms, but the case between Branch and the Patriots became contentious. The players union filed a grievance against the Patriots on behalf of Branch this month, claiming that the Patriots had violated an oral agreement to trade him if they received adequate compensation. A separate grievance was also filed, accusing the Patriots of violating a provision of the collective bargaining agreement that requires teams to negotiate in good faith.

It is unclear when Branch, who missed all of training camp, will play for the Seahawks. Seattle led the N.F.L. in scoring last season, but looked offensively inept Sunday in its 9-6 victory over the Detroit Lions. All the scoring came on field goals.

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was sacked five times and running back Shaun Alexander was held to 51 yards on 19 carries. It took a 42-yard field goal by Josh Brown on the game’s final play for Seattle to pull out the victory.

The Seahawks, the defending National Football Conference champion, may be feeling the impact of losing left guard Steve Hutchinson, who signed a seven-year, $49 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings during the off-season.

Branch could become Hasselbeck’s primary receiver once he familiarizes himself with Seattle’s offense. The veteran wide receiver Darrell Jackson has been injury prone, Nate Burleson has had difficulty adjusting to Seattle’s system and tight end Jerramy Stevens missed Sunday with a knee injury.

As poorly as the Seahawks played offensively, they were not as bad as the Green Bay Packers, who were shut out at home, 26-0, by the Chicago Bears. The fate of Packers quarterback Brett Favre bears watching, with the Packers coming off a 4-12 season and possibly headed for another disappointing campaign. Favre was 15 of 29 for 170 yards and threw 2 interceptions.

If the Packers continue to struggle, the first-year coach Mike McCarthy could become the man who finally benches Favre, who turns 37 next month, to see if the backup Aaron Rodgers has the ability to be an N.F.L. starter.

Talk of benching Favre could be premature after one game, but the Packers are already being second-guessed for their off-season strategy of waiting for Favre to decide whether to retire rather than committing to rebuilding by trading him.

Instead, Favre is playing behind an offensive line that features two rookies, and the Packers were shut out for the first time since 1991, the year before Favre joined Green Bay.

GREEN STILL HOSPITALIZED Kansas City quarterback Trent Green sustained a “very, very severe concussion” when his head was slammed to the ground by Cincinnati’s Robert Geathers and will be hospitalized at least until today, the Chiefs said yesterday.

“He’s feeling much better,” the Chiefs’ president, Carl Peterson, said. “But he has a very king-sized headache. Hopefully he’ll be able to go home tomorrow.”

Peterson said he did not know when Green might return.

Damon Huard, who until Sunday had not completed a pass in the N.F.L. since Dec. 24, 2000, will start against Denver. (AP)

SEASON-ENDING INJURIES Jacksonville defensive end Reggie Hayward ruptured his left Achilles’ tendon in the opener against Dallas and will be out for the season. He will have surgery in the next 10 days.

St. Louis center Andy McCollum will also miss the rest of the season after tearing two ligaments in his left knee. McCollum, a 13-year veteran, made his 156th consecutive start in Sunday’s 18-10 victory over the Denver Broncos. He will have surgery in a few weeks. (AP)

AROUND THE LEAGUE The Green Bay Packers have agreed to terms with wide receiver Koren Robinson. He was recently cut by the Minnesota Vikings after being charged with drunken driving. ... Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard will probably not play Sunday against the Giants because of a sprained ankle. (AP)

Report: Raiders' Porter seen laughing at loss
Story Tools:

FOXSports.com
Posted: 2 hours ago

It was clear for all to see Monday night that the Oakland Raiders have some serious on-the-field issues. Their 27-0 home defeat to the San Diego Chargers spoke loudly, as did the boos of the home fans.

But there are off-the-field problems as well, and they may begin with what to do with disgruntled wide receiver Jerry Porter.
Porter, who was declared inactive for Monday's regular-season opener, was seen laughing and pumping his fist near the Raiders bench after Oakland quarterback Aaron Brooks was sacked for the seventh time, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in its game blog Monday night.

Porter has clashed with Raiders coach Art Shell and has demanded to be traded. He has been slowed by a calf injury suffered early in training camp. Porter was a starter for the Raiders last season, but his role with the team under Shell appears to have diminished.

Doug Gabriel started all five exhibition games opposite Randy Moss. After Gabriel was traded to New England, Alvis Whitted was named the starter, and Porter continued to languish.

Shell, asked about his decision to deactivate Porter Monday, said: "We have five receivers and I decided we'd go with the other four guys."

Oh HELL NO...Porter has got to go, but which team would want his disruptive ass...what is up with these Prima Donna WR's?
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Moss hasn't exactly been that supportive, either. I'm glad he's there and not in Minnesota. He's a washed up receiver with an attitude.
