Orange Julius Question - eggs these days or no? Bear with me till I get to the relevent Orange Julius/eggs part of my post...
It's very warm here today where I am, so I decided to make a fruit smoothie and went online to find recipes. Among the results of my search were many recipes for the "original" Orange Julius which reminded me of how, back in the middle 80s when I hung out at the mall all the time, I would *ALWAYS* get my favorite Orange Julius drink - raspberry with an egg added (you had to request the egg and they charged more for that. you could also have an egg added to any other O.J. drink if you wanted) - to sip on while I strolled around the mall. Some people thought the raw egg aspect was disgusting, but I liked how mjuch more frothy and thick and smooth the egg made the drink, plus I figured it was good for me. Anyway, I haven't been to an Orange Julius in ages, and was talking to someone today about how much I loved those raspberry Julius's with egg and how I should go get one sometime, and this person said to me that nowadays you probably couldn't get a raw egg added because of the worries about salmonella and lawsuits and such. He told me that his brother-in-law used to work at an Ember's restaurant and had a customer that would come in and would order eggs and liked them runny (the yolk and the whites both) and Ember's made this customer sign something first that said they weren't liable or responsible if this customer should get sick from having eaten the eggs so raw and runny at their restaurant. I'd never heard of anything like that before! Making a customer sign something just cuz they wanted their eggs on the (really) runny side, but I guess these days everybody's gotta cover their ass... So - I guess I"m just wondering if any of you all out there have visited an Orange Julius recently, and know if a person is still able to get an Orange Julius made with a raw egg added in, or if they've stopped offering that. (fortunately I found all those recipes online so I can just make my own O.J. drink at home anyway if I want to..)

Oh you should definitely give one a try sometime, especially if you enjoy fruity drinks and fruit smoothies and the like. I loooved Orange Julius so much back in the 80s and got them all the time. Then when I got older and didn't hang around the mall so much , I kinda just forgot about them and I don't think I've had one in about 15 years. You used to be able to get various other flavors instead of just orange, or have other fruits mixed in WITH the original Orange Julius. Today when I did a search I just put "smoothie recipe" into Google and all these Orange Julius recipe links came up. Here's a couple: http://www.topsecretrecip...angeju.htm http://robbiehaf.com/Recipes/O/79.htm I'm sure today's Orange Julius stores & menu are way different than I remember them. though. Damn that marching time thing....

Raw egg white and egg yolk also depletes your system of biotin.
People didn´t know that back in the days. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

People didn´t know that back in the days. Oh. And that is bad? Biotin, also known as vitamin H, is very important for healthy skin and hair and your immune system, among other things. Eggs are a very healthy food, rich in zinc. lecithin and biotin and that makes them good for your skin and hair, but not in their raw form. Of course it won´t kill you to eat a raw egg every now and then, unless they have salmonella bacteria, but it´s not very beneficial either. I used to eat, or better drink, raw eggs as a kid and maybe it was a good thing, I don´t know, but what I do know is that they´ve found out that your system has to use lots of biotin in order to cope with the allinine (?) in raw eggs. Cooking the eggs not only kills bacteria but it also makes the egg more digestible and doesn´t consume your biotin. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I think they just use powdered egg whites in the ones at Orange Julius. The recipe for them calls for egg whites, not the whole egg.
