Nope.

At 15 I took a driving test on Tractor ( ) and passed first time.
At 17 I took a driving test for car and passed on first try.
At 21 I took a driving test for motorcycle and passed on first try.

I failed five times before I got my license. I almost always did well except for one game breaking mistake.

I eventually had to drive out of the cities and take my test at a place where they did the testing on actual roads. I felt a lot more comfortable with that.

Hobbes, what do u mean "actual roads"??? U mean you often take the test on a track? That's how they do it here in Thailand.

failed first test....

reversed arround a corner and ended up on wrong side of the road and paralle parked in about 12 moves kept pulling away in 2nd gear too

on my second test when i passed i stalled 3 times because i was shaking with nerves so much, but the guy must have seen how nervous i was and as i rectified it fairly quick i got away with it.

My current car has a manual transmission. But yes, isn't standard here much anymore. Last time my niece (who's 14) rode with me in my car she asked me why my car was so much work what with shifting all the time.

I remember my old drives from Cheltenham up the hill to Cirencester (sorry, that won't mean much to you, but imagine long, sweeping corners with lots of beautiful overhanging trees) and with an auto it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun. Sure makes things easier in traffic though. When I tried my friends automatic I found it very difficult to leave my left foot alone. I kept wanting to brake with the left and accelerate with the right!

There's no such thing in Israel. You learn and you are tested on manual, on actual roads. If you can't deal with reality on the test, you shouldn't deal with it after the test too.

No, but my dad taught me to drive from the age of 12.

My first lesson nearly ended in failure because he'd told me how to put the car in first and lift up on the clutch and down on the accelerator but hadn't told me about the brake pedal .... of course, at 12 I had as much feel for the subtle touch needed on the accelerator as a herd of elephants and went off like a rocket. All I can remember is my dad yelling "BRAKE, BRAKE" and me thinking "what does that mean?".

Another lesson learned ....

Oh. here you use special cars that have the pedals on both sides of the car so your teacher can hit the gas or breaks whenever he feels like it. We don't use our own cars for learning or for the test.

I failed my first driving test! What made it so bad was that my parents were allowing me to drive by myself for about a month before I took the test. I had a thin bitch and she made me nervous! Oh- I made a left turn in front of on coming traffic causing all the cars to come to a screeching hault!

Failed first test (my G test, at any rate). Ontario has two road tests, the G2 test and the G test, the only difference being that a G license allows you to have a maximum blood alcohol limit while driving. Just another ploy so the government can plug you for a second road test. They recently privatized the testing institutions here, though, and as a result they usually fail you at least 3 times for minor indiscretions ($75 x 3 tests = a lot more money than 1 test). Everyone knows this, and everyone budgets accordingly for it. For example, I failed because I hadn't accelerated to exactly 100 km/h (the speed limit) before merging on the highway. Yup, I was going 90 km/h when I merged, and therefore I was "disrupting traffic". My second G test is this month.

LOL, no, having a G2 license (road test #1) means you have all the privileges of a G license, except you must have a BAC level of 0 at all times. The G license (road test #2) means you can have the Ontario standard BAC limit while driving. So basically, if you don't drink (like me), you're paying for absolutely nothing. But you are forced to get a G license.

Me I failed the first time because for some reason I thought the 2 way stop was a 4 way stop and the person had to use the brake on the right side to save us from an accident. It was slighly embarrassing because we took the class and test through school and nearly everyone else passed and was all excited.

I have a friend who may have set the record for quickest fail because he didn't put on his seat belt and as soon as he put it in drive and moved at all the tester hit the right break and told him he failed.
