Of course it's still there...but Way way WAAAAYYYY less funky than it used to be. It's now more sorta touristy and seems like it's for yuppies and suburbanites. It's sad. I do have to say that's it's been like this for a while now...But I have noticed a DEFINITE change since I left. But it was headed in that direction for the last decade.
