The art of debate is dying, and has been turned completely to dust over at the P&R Forum...no tit-for-tat discussions with each side giving their viewpoint legitimacy by backing up their positions with fact...instead it's merely a bunch of mindless rhetoric and insults. Make a valid point? Don't hold your breath waiting for someone to say "That's true"....when you can't argue the logic, you argue the reason the logic is being used ("I'd expect nothing less from a Bush supporter"..."Figures a liberal would say that")...The forum is full of people who are prisoners of their political idealogy.
Going over there is no longer worth the energy or effort. You NAILED it!!! I love a good debate, but everytime I go over there I find very few people willing to actually do so. People can't seem to have a friendly discussion where they are on different ends of a point. Its all dgenerated into pointless name-calling. Oh, and really, how many threads about the JWs are needed?? There is nothing wrong with discussing a particular faith, but it seems there are one or two individuals who are just determined to get the JW folks to "see the error of their ways". Thread after thread attacking one sect just seems ridiculous to me. I find myself constantly leaping to the JW member's defense, just because I can't stand to see a particular group singled out and bashed. I would love to be able to discuss differing scriptural points with the JWs instead (as most of them are willing to do), but instead I spend my time defending their right to those viewpoints. a good debate would be nice now and then but hey ho you can not have everything

Co-sign, bro. I'm growing tired of the JW threads too, as most of them are anti-JW threads. It would be nice to discuss some positive things over there. I've been scooting on over to GD more and more....

absolutely right. that dang P&R forum, with its discussions about politics and religions and other world news . . . total waste of time.
i'd MUCH rather spend my time here in the general discussion forum reading about nipple piercings and sex on top or bottom?, oral or not? cause it's MUCH more interesting

And what's unintersting and predictable about the P&R forum is the dumb asses who have no proof to back up their stupid statements. They continuously evade questions that point out their ignorance, and only frequent these forums seeking attention that their parents(and everyone obviously never gave em.

Yes,there are alot of heated emotions, tense arguments and the occasional name-calling,but that's how it is when you discuss controversial topics like politics, religion, war and racial issues. There are so many different opinions, but it's interesting to see how other Orgers feel about these subjects.I find myself enjoying the discussions and debates. But I have to admit,I do kinda feel sorry for the few conservatives who would dare visit that forum...lol...there seems to be a deep dislike for President Bush ove there. I think that the anti-Bush thing is just one phase of many that the forum goes through. Oddly enough, I actually found this very site one day while looking for a political topic online if you can believe it! I never actually found it because of Prince at all- FUNNY. At any rate, when I first arrived here, we were in the thick of the Iraq issue (when how and where to deal with it), and the anti-conservative/pro war stance was simply OVERWHELMING, and often times used as vehicle for spewing hate against minorities, other religions...if one had an opinion that didn't support unilateral action they/we were referred to as communists, towel-head lovers, IT WAS INSANE. Alot of people even seemed to follow the opinions of Donald Rumsfeld hook line and sinker, by declaring parts of western Europe in the Axis of Evil, betrayers, sissies...I mean, I'm a black chick of Jewish descent living over here...I experience the life and politics of several different countries here on a daily basis and I was MORTIFIED with how the conservatives would swoop down and metaphorically destroy anything in their path if it resembled, well, anything remotely open-minded or not in their viewpoint. That all goes to say that it appears the tide may have turned, but not unlike all aspects of history it won't be the last time. The political pendulum here, as in real life, always swings back and forth. So being that this is an election year, we'll be seeing alot of different opinions coming out on the org that we may not have seen a year or two ago, I think.
