REPOST...
Question: how do you determine when it's Camille? I always thought "Camille" was a certain era for him, that the persona had a place in time & wasn't necessarily a "style" he'd revisit - am I wrong? Maybe I should think about this some more, lol...

another question about Camille - does he lay the track down first and then speed up his voice to fit it?

When his voice is pitched higher, mostly songs recorded in 1986/87 examples: Shockadelica, Feel u up, dream factory, crystal ball, IF i was.., Scarlet Pussy, Rockhard in a funky place, I vote 4 Shockadelica as the funkiest one. I made a Camille-tape once!

'Come on' is a song in Camille-style.. it features the same high-pitched voice, a bit lower though than the 'real' Camille songs.

Favorite Camille song? hmm. "If I Was Your Girlfriend" probably. Although "Rebirth of the Flesh" is darn close.
He has many songs with the voice spead up like Erotic City, Love or Money, Dream Factory, Crystal Ball, one of the versions of Witness, Partyman, Good Man, Baby Knows, Come On, Lovesexy, and a few more. I imagine he uses this technique with backing vocals as well. But as far as actual songs credited to Camille, all of them were from '86 as far as I know. They are: Rebirth of the Flesh, Housequake, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Strange Relationship, U Got The Look, Feel U Up, Good Love, Shockadelica, Rockhard In A Funky Place, and Scarlet Pussy. All of these except UGTL and SP were to be included on an aborted project entitled 'Camille'.

Does that qualify the whole song as a Camille song? Huh, I NEVER knew that. Damn, I learned sumfin' today! Thanks Nikkie... How do you guys know all this stuff? Do they break this down in those Per Nilson books or something?? LOL!

Did Camille record the Black album then? Since Prince did Lovesexy wouldn't you say his alter ego Camille recorded the Black album. Being a Gemini and having the good twin which is light and the bad or evil side dark? Also,it seems prince's Camille is the Sex Pig so to speak. He get's this little Devilish grin you know when he's Camille. Oh my God. Why do I have to Scream again? AHHH!!! It's so wonderful just thinking about the fruits of Camille's pleasure. Surely as Ingrid Chavez once said Heaven must be Near.

And Housequake as well! Check the Lyric sheets 4 Sign of the Times, it's written there: 'lead vocal by Camille'

I think u really should listen to the pitch of his voice. On the Black Album, only Rockhard... is a Camille Song, it was originally intended 4 the Camille album If I remember correctly..

No, Camille did not record The Black Album. Although he did give Prince one of his songs to use. The Lovesexy tourbook explains the story in a little more detail. That makes it seem as though Camille is more than just a batch of songs and more of a mindset.

I'm listening 2 the Black Album.. Le Grind definately sounds like a Camille song! Apart from the lead vocal.. it's in trademark Camille style!

just pointing out that Camille is supposedly Female (hence 'that girl' in the topic title).kind of adds a strange twist to certain songs if you think about it! [This message was edited Sat Sep 21 4:15:55 PDT 2002 by Thecherryloon]

Camille is not a female. He's a young boy. See my post above. It clearly states which songs are credited to Camille and which ones are not. I'll get back to y'all on the Lovesexy story.

Are you seriously implying Camille is Prince's girl side and she's a Lesbian? What about Camille saying I'm just Rockhard in a funky place or I just hate to see an erection go to waste? A girl can't have a penis. So is he a Transvestite? What are you implying with the Camille Fantasy? Prince being somebody's Girlfriend? Is this person a female or is this person a guy? What are you saying in your opinion what sex is Camille?

shockadelica - "and the reason is Camille, shockadelica, the girl must be a witch, she got your..."
definately supposed to be a girl."i just hate to see an erection go to waste" could obviously be camille speaking to a man. Very confusing. [This message was edited Sat Sep 21 4:35:21 PDT 2002 by Thecherryloon]

Could the early "We Can Funk" version (not the George Clinton song on GB) B a Camille song, too? Besides the piched voice the instrumentation is quite similar to "If I Was Your Girlfriend" . . . "Don't hate me 'cuz I'm fabulous!"

I really don't think Camille is a girl. Here's why.
If I was your girlfriend is - I think - a man singing to a girl how much he would like get as close to her as a girlfriend could: because as a boyfriend he could not ever get this close to her- on a level of understanding eachother.. A girl would not sing If I was your girlfriend, because she would already be a girl... right? I think Prince would love to experience what it feels like 2 be a girl- and how he would relate 2 other girls, how he could get to know things about them he would never know being a man... but still he AND Camille are men. I don't see the point 4 Prince in creating a lesbian female character.. (this would have 2 b the case if Camille were a girl- listening 2 lyrics in Fill me up, or Rockhard..)

No Camille is Definitely a guy Prince is saying in Rockhard he's in whore house and he's got an erection and he hates to see an erection go to waste that's his exact lyrics. He's definitely a guy in this song and personally I think Camille is a guy cause Prince is saying to his girlfriend if he was a girl she would be closer to him she would tell him things she would do things with him. No Camille is a Man and just Prince using a higher pitched voice. But granted Prince's Camille's lyrics are extremely sexual.

So no Prince and Camille are definitely Male. Straight Males.
