It's an ok item 4 ur collection, but that's about it. They're currently 4 different versions on the market. u can pick it up @ tower records, or camelot. I think everybody has heard it.
it's not worth that much because prince acts on those sessions merely as a session musician, but it's not bad stuff either. however, this isn't the accurate documentation of the sessions.

The original "Minneapolis Genuis" album was released in late 1985,and it consisted of only 6 tracks.I've always liked the Disco track "Just Another Sucker",and "Lovin Cup" is also a nice track. On this album, the original recordings have been remixed to sound "modern".Prince is mostly just a session musician on this album, and you don't really hear him singing at all.
The album you should look for is the expanded,2-CD version called "Symbolic Beginnings".This was released in 1995,and it is a HUGE improvement over the 1985 version. For one thing, the songs on this version are in their original form, with no remixing. You get the 6 songs that appear on the first album, plus a second disc containing even more songs! You also hear Prince's contributions more clearly on this set.He even cracks a joke at the beginning of "Dance To The Music Of The World"(demo version). On this CD,you get the chance to hear the original 1975 version of "If You See Me" (Prince re-recorded this song in 1982 and re-named it "Do Yourself A Favor").Other highlights on this CD include the dreamy "Better Than You Think",which features beautiful guitar by Prince (an instrumental version is also included!),the funky "Love,Love,Love",and several other cool tracks. There is an extensive CD booklet, with details about all the recordings, and it all comes packaged in a nice purple box. Either collection should be easy to find.I frequently see the original 6-song "Minneapolis Genuis" CD at my local Tower Records.Let me know if you need me to pick you up a copy.

"How old was Prince when he made it?"
These recordings were recorded between 1975 and 1977.Pepe Willie was married to a relative of Prince's.He was a musician with the plan of starting a band called 94 East.He recruited Prince and Andre Cymone to work as session musicians on these recordings. The first recordings took place in December 1975,the first time Prince EVER recorded music in a music studio. As such, these recordings are a must-have for any Prince fan. Pepe managed to get a recoding deal for his band 94 East. The deal was with Polygram (or Polydor?) Records. The deal fell through, and the songs were never released. In 1985,Pepe simply dusted the old tapes off, compiled an album and named it "Minneapolis Genuis". i have it on tape. it's pretty mediocre stuff, imo....except 4 "one man jam", i kinna dig that. and i agree with david--symbolic beginning is very good, but keep away from volume 1 of that set. vol. 2 is the shit. [This message was edited Wed Mar 6 13:29:46 PST 2002 by Handclapsfingasnapz]

I got this album for Easter one year. Don't like the music, but the pretty purple album cover made for a perfect Easter-themed gift.
