he's not using his NAME he's licensing out the symbol that represents him therefor not selling out but mataining ownership, by representing a relationship with a corprate sponsor. in this case An American Company showing his patriotic duty as an american citizen. all the while making some cash and still reminding "fam's" and potiental "fam's" he is still around come wit it now!!!

Patriotic duty eh? LOL. Doesn't anyone listen to lyrics anymore? The War 1998 "do u Love you Country? Do you Love your country more then God? Micro-chip in yo neck." This song is 25 minutes long..can't repeat all the lyrics. Muse 2 the Pharoh 2001 "The opposite of NATO is OTAN" Who is in NATO? Family Name 2001 "devil devil. You've been here since 1914..." Alas, the year NATO came to be. Prince Aftershow at the House of Blues 4-20-02 "Welcome 2 the United States of division." Since Prince has not officialy announced himself he is a JW, we will just PRETEND like sheep that he is "just studying" the JW scriptures. Inside the scriptures & what is tought in Freedom Hall, that you do not show patriotism to any country or flag. For those who paid atention, Prince asked if she sould let Corvette use "Little Red Corvette" for thier 50th anniversary. In this day & age, where you will hear "Fly Away" from Lenny Kravitz in a car commercial & "Just Push Play" from Aerosmith in a truck commercial & so many countless respectable muscians (not talking bout the Britney Pepsi commercial ok) it is not as much seen as selling out anymore. This is not 1984 when everyone tripped out when Nike started using the Beatles "Revolution" in thier ads. Prince hates little red corvette. Let him make a buck out of it. How about what actually happened...
General Motors and Chevy(same company) asked Prince for the use of "Little Red Corvette" for Chevy's 50th anniversary of the Corvette, which first came out in 1953. Prince had asked a group of npgmc members during a pre-show warmup if he should let them use the song. I think the members said it was good idea, but not sure. I am personally hoping he lets Chevy use the song in a commercial celebrating the 50 years, as Chevy could've made a cool music/collage with all the different styles of Corvettes throughout the years. Maybe that's still in the works, as we're still 6 months from 2003...? I'm certain he gave them limited use of the song, for a limited amount of time. peace

I mean it is not like he is allowing Vasaline to use "Cream".
He is not licensing out "take me with you" for STD's. I mean he is not licensing out "The Undertaker" to Groman Mortuaries. He is not allowing "soft & wet" to be used for Ben & Jerry's Ice cream. or "Electric Chair" to the state of Texas or "Space" to NASA. or "Loose" to Pamela Anderson or "jughead" to Archie Comics or "Call the Law" to NYPD Blue or "Emale" to AOL or "New Position" to VIVID/PRIVATE video or you get the picture. =-) Silence Speaks A Thousand Words.

(WWI lasted from 1914-1919). Read your History, or at least know it before you comment.

Sell Out? Hardly...Prince being Prince now is not what they want.
But more important Prince ain't thinking about them in terms of having another ave 4 his music 2 B heard via TV car ads etc. As he states perfect "commercialization of music is what brought it down." He respects his creations far 2 much. He would have done it already if that was his focus. Purple Rain was perfect, if he were in2 the idea of being a all out sell-out. Prince cut the rest of the world off not touring outside the US with it. He could have made the public much more happy taking a route that most do if he was interested in being a safty first music money maker with proven hits. 1999 & Purple Rain, Prince could have kept his career in these eras sound wise if he were a true sell-out. Chart hits & music that the masses love. But he took a sharp left turn & did what he wanted. Doing this cost him in terms of making even more $$$... but the bottom line was that his music & vision always came first. He's even turned down major sponsorship from a soft drink company who were interested. Coke it was said wanted 2 counteract Pepsi/Jackson using Prince. Prince never took that lame bate, thus not selling out. Anyway Prince's ways and thinking rub the music companys & insiders the wrong way. So I don't see that kind of parnership happening. But as we all know WB does own the right 2 his biggest records & can use them as they see fit 4 profit. Sad but true...

Warner does own the masters to the song. I think Warners does, however, have to get permission from Prince to use the song -- or any reprinted lyrics. [This message was edited Fri May 31 7:07:02 PDT 2002 by slm4m]

I wonder if Prince originally got permission to use the "Corvette" in his song? Granted it was free advertising for Chevy so they'd be insane to make an issue out of it if he didn't.

Remember the song that Prince wrote for Ray Charles to sing in the Pepsi ads, "Uh-Huh"? What's your take on that? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
