I have two things that are completely rare and strange all at once...
The first thing is a Mac's Convenience Store (kinda like a 7-11) plastic cup that says 'Rock Cups' on it and has a little picture of the Purple Rain on it and a little write up on the back of the cup about the album (the cup came out in the summer of '84). I found it at Value Village back in 1989 for 50 cents. My other odd thing is a kids velcro wallet with a poorly silkscreened cartoon face of Prince (a la Purple Rain) and the Purple Rain logo on it. I bought that when I was in high school... it cost me $3.99 at the time. My greatest find was a Purple Rain Tour Shirt, never, ever, ever worn (it still had some $20 tag pinned to it's sleeve - a la a concert merchandise booth), and that I also found at the Village back in 1994 for 50 cents (I've only ever worn it three times since I bought it...).

I gotta get something rare & strange so I can answer this Q properly
All I have is a purple vinyl 45" of PR, the limited edition gold foil album & one of his "love" guitar picks which apparently ain't rare at all since they hand them out all the time... NEXT!

Do you play guitar? Can you tell what gauge the pick is..???

Although I don't think it's rare...it has to be the strangest...
The Purple Rain Coat condemns..(did I spell that right?). I forgot that I had them until a few years ago when my 7 y/o daughter found them while going through my Prince collection. They are hidden a little better now! If U set your mind free, baby, maybe U'd understand...

I picked up a Tamborine of Ebay just before Xmas. One with the symbol in the middle, not a tamborc one! It cost me about £100...So that's one of most expensive item's in the collection that I'm building. I've got a few more bits and pieces... Today was Tomorrow and Yesterday was Today...so what time is it now ??

At the celebration in 2000 I was at Paisley Park when they had the big sale of everything. I was looking through all this stuff and Prince came walkin through the soundstage.
Prince walked by and looked around at everyone so I syatyed to follow him, I heard a sound and I realised he farted and I was behind him so I opened my little jar and captured it. It is my most prized possession !

Of my rare things, the most uncommon is probably a Graffiti Bridge film crew jacket. It's a Letterman-style jacket (wool body, leather sleeves). The body is black with "Graffiti Bridge Crew" on the left breast and a large "90" on the back (production year), embroidered in gold. One sleeve (I think the right) is black and the other is white. The white sleeve has a patch on it which says, I think, "Love" in Japanese.

I have a couple of picture 12" which i think is really rare:
I could never take the place of your man Thunder and a double single og Girls & Boys. I'll have another glass of you.
this time on the rocks. | |

A couple of strange things: a vinyl 'Lovesexy' raincoat & a Muppet trading card with Kermit the Frog dressed up as Prince (Purple Rain-era).
It has an MTV-style credit at the bottom listing the artist as "(Frog) Prince", the songs as "I Would Hop 4 U", "It's Not Easy Being Purple", & "Piggy Reigns" & the record label as "Paisley Pork Records".

Dude, I have one of those, still in the plastic bag! I got it when I was at the taping for the first Arsenio Hall show appearance! Great experience. Can't let go of that one. sunmoonandstars said: I have two things that are completely rare and strange all at once...

I would love to see photos of these things! I hardly remember the Rock Cups. I also do remember the Purple Rain wallets! You totally reminded me of that! Seems like Value Village must be a cool little store. None over here in LA. Rarest things I have in MY collection...hmmm...(rummaging through my Prince cabinet)...oh!...yes...Wendy & Lisa gold plated (not actual gold) promo pins...I've never seen them since. The're the actual logotype/lettering of their first solo album. I love these! Then I have some South American releases of Batman, Graffiti Bridge. GB I have on a double cassette configuration with large cover and the titles have all been translated! An Emancipation mobile of Prince's symbol...nice...but not really attached to it. Jill Jones autograph! Met her at The Beverly Center in LA in '89. That was great! She was sooo beautiful and friendly, pulled out my notebook and bam! Proof! But my most favorite and rarest item has to be one of the actual SIGNS from the Sign O The Times Tour! Just to have a piece from that awesome tour and era just blows my mind! I love it! It's going to hang in my studio soon!

Moderator | I have the batman album that came in a medal container that looks like a mini film canaster. It's solid black with the batman logo embezzeled on the front.
Inside, the booklet is round, with different/more pictures than the other one sold in stores. I'm not sure where it came from. I worked with this guy who after finding out I listed to Prince, told me about it. He collected all things Batman. I had the Batman latex mask. So we traded. All Rights Reserved. |

Fabulous! Thanks for sharing a photo! So you met him and saw him in person?! Great! He had never sat and signed autographs in America before. He sat at thetable along with all the band mates (he also had a white glove on) in case anyone shook his hand. Waited out in the snow, at the end he quit signing and locked the doors, the band played three songs live in the record store. too cool. there was about 30 people in between the aisles. the show was that night. I was snowed in Atlanta for two days and so was Prince. ---------------------------------

"Pussy Control"/"319" promo CD single. (No, the title is not censored as it was on the album version.)
I've often heard it described as "withdrawn," although I haven't been able to verify that. However, I note that Warner Bros.' name is nowhere to be found on it-- instead it says "©1995 Controversy Music." Also, markings near the hub of the disc suggest that it was pressed by a company in Plymouth, Minnesota, which is near Chanhassen. It seems like something Prince himself decided to press up. Apparently 300 copies were pressed, and of those, maybe about 30 are in circulation. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
