and when you re-direct the question to AaronSuperior, I'm going to ask why you care and why you've singled me out. and then i'll tell you it's none of your business. [This message was edited Sat Apr 12 2:44:21 PDT 2003 by AaronSuperior]

Hey man, I was just curious. You're at the org. I haven't singled you out. What's your problem? I just picked out someone I've noticed here at the org. I might ask Ian or ChippyChappy or TheVoice or anyone...I just thought it give a spotlight on an orger. And don't get all thinking you're popular now because you're names on the Title of the post now. So, tell us are you a Prince fan?

So, tell us are you a Prince fan?
yes, I'm a Prince fan. what kind of stupid question is that? this part gives away what i'd suspected from the beginning. this whole thread is nothing more than the age old "if you aren't a Prince fan, why are you at Prince.org" debate. It happened a very long time ago... watching top of the pops when suddenly the video to 1999 came on the screen and the shot when the camera goes up the leg of Jill Jones? wearing stockings. It caught my attention big time and that was what got me interested, I then hired Purple rain from the video shop for 8 weeks solid until I bought it on video!
The rest is history! http://www.myspace.com/savage1999uk

I guess there is a moral in all of this: don't pick a wanker as the inaugural subject of a series of threads you are thinking of starting

better moral: "don't pick a volatile wanker that doesn't like you as..." etc.

I became a fan in 1984. My brother brought me free promos he got somehow of Purple Rain and Sheila E.s Glamourous Life and then saw the movie, that did for me. Saw his live videos on TV "I Would Die 4U and Baby I'm Star" and was simply floored.
Then got Around The WOrld in Day the first day it came out then started to collect like crazy, especially clippings, photos, singles and got all his back catalog. Thanks all for sharing how you became a Prince fan. Actually it's been a discussion before on an occassion or two but what the heck! There are a lot of new Prince fans in the house! Oh and next time you're right, I'll keep it general Fairmoan and won't "single" anyone out! Peace!

so..umm...calhounsq...how did you become a prince fan? ..if you don't mind my asking that is... Not at all I used to hear Soft & Wet on the radio when I was 7. I don't think I'd ever seen him before or anything (so it wasn't his looks that pulled me in) but I liked the song a lot, plus my sister played the 45 OUT. Wonder how my mom felt about me singing that? Can't remember if she told me to stop singing it, she probably did though. Then came IWBYL, same thing. Dirty Mind was a bit of a mystery, I don't think anyone in the house bought it. I just knew there was some nasty song on it I wasn't supposed to hear, lol. My sister bought Controversy, tried to hide it from me (for the poster & Do Me Baby) but I would sneak & listen to it anyway, that's what got me - Do Me Baby, Controversy, Private Joy & Let's Work, I was SOLD. Been a fan ever since I was old enough to buy records...

I actually remember before becoming a big "official" fan, when I was in elementary school or early junior high, and I saw a late night music show and seeing the Dirty Mind video, he freaked me out! I thought "Yeek! that dude is freaky. Whats up with these bands with Queen and Prince for names...!" and wasn't really interested. At the time I was into Journey and stuff (Hey! I loved and still love that band!). Then I saw the LRC video and seeing how he incorporated some break dancing moves and thought he was cool for doing that. But nothing. Then I heard Delirious on the radio and thinking, "He thounds like Elvith." But that didn't do it until PR! [This message was edited Sun Apr 13 21:48:13 PDT 2003 by FlyingCloudPassenger]

It all happened November '82:
I had just finished doing my homework(my mom didn't allow me to watch tv until I did my homework), and i rushed into the living room to turn on the tv, natrually I put it on MTV. When I put it on MTV the "1999" video had just come on, I first saw Lisa doing that one thing she did with her eyes at the beginning of the video, I was like "wow she's pretty". So then i sat on the couch and watched the whole video. I was amazed. So then I went to family room (where all the records were kept) and looked thru them to see if we had any Prince albums. We did. All 5 leading up to "1999". i listented to them all in the next two days (also while satying glued to to tv, hoping to see the video again, which I did). So after I had listened to all of the Prince albums we had, I asked my dad if he could get "that new Prince album". Being the huge music fan he was he knew what I was talkin' about. So the next day after he came home with the album. My whole family was excited(they're all Prince fans) we listened to it that day. I was sold. So then I saved up my allowance and bought the "1999" tape(since all records stayed in the family room). I listened to it enlessly. So then my dad brought home Vanity6 And What Time is it?, I listened to those a lot too, but didn't bother to get them on tape. Then of course "Purple Rain" came, that was when I lost my damn mind. So that's my story. ~KiKi

Yeah, they still dig him! They could care less about his religion. Exept I have one uncle who, for more than 20 years, keeps bringin' up that Rick James was frist, ect. and I have an aunt who likes him, but insists 'bambi' is homophobic. But other than that, my whole family loves Prince. ~KiKi

I had one night a very special encounter with a man, I liked, didn't knew then he was Prince.
I did know Prince Music a bit, but I wasn't into, had other things in my head. When they told me He was Prince, after the first schock, I began to do think about him. Intensly, for years. No, I did not listen to His Music for very long years. But I've been and am always a big fan. Then, years after, I had a living dream, as a vision. I begun then to surf the Internet. Love4oneanother and prince.org received mails frm me, planty! Begun to do listen to his Music, whatch videos and can say, I begun to become a real, real admirator of him. Well, I went real crazy. Somes of you have lieved this phase with me and many of the orgers, all have been very patient with me. Now I'm as awaking up from a dream, back to reality. Many things happend, many things have changed. And again I'm at that point I do not listen to his Music, but thistime, thistimes it's diffrent.
