NFO community I have an idea. Lets start a MSN community for the NFO! This way we would have our own message board where people can talk about our music. Plus, you can upload pics and create lots of sections.
I really like the way MSN communities look, no ads like the Yahoo groups. I visit a Tori Amos community from time to time. Check it out for a good example. http://groups.msn.com/The...sCommunity Their digests are pretty cool too, the way they come out on your email is colorful and easy on the eyes.

What if we build one into the nfo site, outside of msn or any other group? I've got a site that includes a free messageboard, that I'm not using. I originally set it up for vocalforum.com, but that's pulling a big life saver, so I can re-design it to go seamlessly into the NFO site... but if we do that, then there's now two sites with messages, etc. add to this the fact that Lewis set one up for the nfo, what, 2 months ago? I think that would be wonderful!
Just a thought though. The "org Musician Hangout" message board here at prince.org doesn't exactly get to over-populated with new posts. And we all seem to come here about everyday. But if you build it, I will come. or wait, that sounds sticky.

I think we need a board where fans can discus the project. I know cloud started a message board on his site to go with the website he was designing for the nfo. If he isn't still doing the website, then I guess that one isn't going to be promoted as much??? Plus, that message board was just a section of his own message board with his color scheme, etc.
I like being able to use emoticons too.

Seriously though, think about it: People who dig us will go there, people who want to join will go there, their fans will go there... It can get really big!
Like you mentioned Otan, we are not going to limit members to Prince fans, so maybe we shouldn't officially stay here very long. We will always come back, I'm sure... [This message was edited Tue May 6 15:20:05 PDT 2003 by VinaBlue]

Moderator | I see this link on the bottom of other people's message boards.
So I guess you could customize it to whatever you want it to look like. All Rights Reserved. |

My only fear is that new 'orgers, or, folks like SexLovely will come to the org musicians section to see if there's anything new cooking, and then slink back over to the "What's better, Prince's leg leg, or his right" discussions... figuring the 'org musicians section is a dead zone.
I dunno. You're definitely right, AAND, all these nfo discussions would DEFINITELY be better suited for their own site, IF one existed. I'll try to figure out how to update my board to resemble the NFO, and dedicate it entirely to the NFO. I got no problem with that - EXCEPT, like was discussed before - what happens when/if I decide to move servers, or for whatever reason, my board is no longer available - all the discussions that were on there will be gone. So - it's definitely a better thing to put it up on the nfo.com site. BUT if that's not an option, then I have no problem putting up my board - it's got NO traffic right now. NONE. - www.vocalforum.com - a depressing dead zone... I built it, and didn't NOBODY come. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

So I guess you could customize it to whatever you want it to look like. But the cool thing about MSN is that they have daily digests. This way, people can stay informed about our new tracks and updates.

How about everyone volunteer a web project and we keep the central disscussions between ourselves here.

I think we can still come here, as org musicians, but it would be cool to have a fan site where people can post messages about us and generate more interest.
The digest would keep people informed, in case they don't remember to stop by all the time. Pretty soon, they will be so excited to get messages that say new songs are posted. Kinda like a community of people who want to hear new music.

That makes sense.
So, who's doin what? I'm sort of in charge of the origins of the thing, right? Or is JD? I volunteered, but I know JD has a better perspective of it. So, then, I think I had another assignment, but I've forgotten it cuz I'm slow like that. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

HEY by the way - to see site pimping in action, go read the thread over in Prince: Music & More... about b-sides. I was talking to a guy over there and I checked out his org bio and saw he's a musician, so I told him about the site. You write music? Check out the new funk order - prince fans that are musicians too.
That's how we do it, yo!www.newfunkorder.com The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Even in its early stage the NFO is practically an institution and ppl will want 2 talk about it at a forum thats based at an official location.
A community thing is a cool idea cuz I can see this project getting pretty damn BIG. I see what U mean by moving will practically kill off "Org Musicians Hangout" but its evolution man... U gotta breakaway at some point. "...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

And now, here's another subject on the same topic...
what about new submissions, from folks that don't have their songs online? How do you wanna handle that? I don't think ANY of us want to have folks emailing songs all willy-nilly... and hell if I know how to set up some sort of online-submission thing... I suppose, for now, if they got no place for their songs, they're gonna have to go through mp3.com. Any thoughts? The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I get the feeling that we'll set one up on the actual newfunkorder site, which really makes the most sense... no reason having a remote portion of the site... IF it can be avoided. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
