Anna Stesia

Just a few quick notes from the far right side 2nd row, where the seats were staggered and we actually sat in the front. Prince came out and checked out the band, which started up their jam before he came onstage. Takumi had a guitar ready for him but he waved it off for a minute to see how the band was performing. Xenophobia is an incredible guitar Jam !!! 1+1+1=3 was a funk workout !!!Strange Relationship was awesome !!! La La La showcased a brilliant falsetto !!! When You Were Mine was a kick ass jam with a wicked guitar solo !!! Avalanche was a slap at Abraham Lincoln and the racist policies of the US Government at the time !!! Raspberry Beret included the whole set of lyrics !!! Takumi passed out Percussion instruments for the Santana Medley, which was excellent !!! The Piano Medley was wonderful and went right into Anna Stesia, which was a powerful version of the song. Had as much impact as the opener of the Celebration 2001 concert.

If you are going to see the show, be prepared for a very unique setting and musical performance. I ran out to get a drink during the beginning of Family Name and there were 200 people in the lobby and people were complaining about hearing songs they didn't know. So fans who were expecting a greatest hits show will be disappointed !!!

I saw Gary Graff, former music critic from the Detroit Free Press, who now does independent reviews on the Internet and for various publications. He had the printed set list with him. That is where I got the Xenophobia, Avalanche, and Another Star title. I did not recognize Another Star….I don't even know who wrote it !!! Any help anyone ??? Everlasting Now and Last December were the last two songs on the list, but Prince did not perform them.

All in All an excellent performance !!! Prince looked good… Wore only one outfit all night !!!

New memorabilia items… Tourbook for $20., 8 x 10 B & W photo of the One Night Alone Pic, Black T-shirt w/One Night Alone Pic which was the first choice of shirts on the NPG Music Club Xtras page. Towards the back of the Tourbook, it has a page which says "R U Ready 2 B A Part of the NPG ? Join The NPG Music Club 2002…. Access These New CD's - last december/One Night Alone/The Best Of 0)+> and Xenophobia.

Looking forward to comments and seeing other reports as time passes. I want to see how the set list evolves !!! People… please take a piece of paper and write down the songs in order !!! I will do the same on Wednesday in Detroit !!!

Thanks for reading !!! Pardon the mistakes, I'm tired !!! Dennis

Cool. New Songs finally but people bitching. Oh well. Most likely purchased thier tix thru a scalper or bought the cheaper seats.

Full versions of songs. Cool

Hmm best of prince eh? Gold Experience re-recorded? Or is this the new masters of his old songs?

Time will tell. Last December? a remix cd of the Children? oh lawd. Hope not. But thne again that song is called "In the Name Of the Father"

Alright. Seems liek you are a hardcore fan to know all these songs n take time to get the list from the critic. peace.

Where's "One Nite Alone" -- that's one of my favorites from NPGMC year 1... oh well, leave it up to Prince to name his tour after a song he doesn't perform sad

reminds me of the Gold Experience Tour in Europe when Prince didn't do old songs. People booed and were pissed he didn't do Purple Rain. It's gotta suck to be chained to your hits like that. I think it's cool he's doing something new and dif this time around. We need to get rid of the people stuck in the past anyway, shake them out.

"Access These New CD's - last december/One Night Alone/The Best Of 0)+> and Xenophobia"

Hmmmm....what happened to "Madrid2Chicago"??...and a "Best Of" as one of the CDs??....That shit better be more like "The Hits" than like "VBOP"...and I sincerely hope that "last December" is NOT a remix CD of TRC...

The concert itself, though, sonded GREAT!....I wanna hear Xenophobia baaaaad now....

People who complained about the lack of performances of "hits" obviously went to One Nite for the wrong reason. Being in a position to create and distribute music the way that Prince does (as free as the running water) there is no reason to limit the set list to audio icons such as "Purple Rain" and "When Dove Cry." As great and as timeless as those songs are, that was then, this is now. Sooo then....given that we have long since passed the exit to "Get Off" at "Erotic City" perhaps we could try some new places this time around. I heard that the "Sensual Ever-after" was a cool place to hang out! Or, maybe we might swing by the Egg (rumor has it, it's "the perfect place to play house").

All hail to the new material!!! ; - )

Dennis, about this report : THANK U wink
The Set-list eye was waitin' 4... Since 1996 and the last Shows in Japan !! eye have 2 confess : on August of 1998 eye was assisting my 19th Prince concert in Paris and after 45 minutes... Eye took the bar ! sad Poor Set-list, poor versions, Ophélie Winter on stage... And GCS killed me in the Opening Act (fantastic show)... Eye was anxious all this week B4 this new Tour (hoping no more old Hits) and... Dennis wrote his comments ! smile Feel better NOW : New Materials on stage, Jazz, Acoustic Trax... All that with BIG Musicians like John Blackwell The Magnificent, Maceo, Candy... Eye can't stand and wait 4 the European Tour ! eye'm gonna save my $$... And take a plane 4 the States !! smile
Peace 2 Anyone and The Rainbow Children wink

Xenophobia is right, Gold Tour was the same, new songs unknown to the audience, and got the same reaction, a few walk outs. It's not really a problem for fans (they thrive on this sort of thing), but a casual listener might feel ripped off.But if thats what Prince wants 2 do, then more power 2 him.

Suprised ot see Purple Rain is not in the set list....shows he is getting those Purple Ballz back n u know that is all good in my book.

thanks man.....you gotta be tired as hell. i think all the hardcore fans will agree that this is what we were hoping for. i cant wait to see it!! Was there an aftershow ? most casual fans are probably more comfortable with what they know.....HITS!!! I couldn't be happier to hear a set list like this. How was the majority of the crowd reacting to the show? Did prince seem to enjoy.....well, no encore
probably meant he was ready to step!!! usually if he does an encore followed by an aftershow he really had a great time.(that usually happens in the bigger cities/small venues) thanks again

It sounds like my dreams have come true.
Finally the man does what he wants, also in concert. And we can be witnesses! I have saved all my $$$ and fly into Washington (from Amsterdam). Can't wait.

I have a few more questions:
- Are the old songs revamped in a jazzy way or do they stick to the original?
- Are there a lot of solo's and is the bandwork tight already?
- Is the show interesting for people that are not so much into Prince, but are into tight, funky and jazzy performances?

I would be very glad if someone could answer these questions...

hmmmm..sounds interesting, but WHY O' WHY did he have to include that damn SANTANA MEDLEY!?!??! lawd.

Ppl who wanted a "hits" show, have had one for YEARS!!! Too bad they missed it. Anyways, sounds good that he's doing some new material.

Still, we have the standards..."raspberry beret, Take me with u, When U were mine" WHY!?!? been played enough.

But, nontheless, sounds like I'll be getting my tickets when he comes to Holland smile

thanks for the report...ppl have been chewing at the bit all night for this. smile

Thank you so much! I've been thinking about the first report all night, so upset that I couldn't be there myself!

The setlist sounds wonderful, though I'm surprised he still did Take Me With You & Raspberry Beret - @ least Chrissy will be happy... wink

I hope once he settles into the tour, he'll lengthen the piano stuff & play One Nite Alone & U're Gonna C Me at least! I gotta hear those live or I'm gonna lose it. Play them in the Bay, P!!!

And anybody bitching about songs they didn't know should have stayed home & let real music fans have the tix!

*

On another note, hey "CalhounSquare" - get your own name, you thievin' bastard!!! evil
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart
