stockholm oct 22 I just came home from a fantastic trip.
I mean,I´m still shakey. prince was in such great form & in such a good mood. the funk just flowed of him & it was fantasitic 2 witness it from the first row. I´m really glad I got 2 see the soundcheck. 2 see how he works & directs his band. the played an instrumental jazzy jam when we were led into the arena.I sat down just infront of prince where he was directing the band from his keyboard rig. he greated us welcome & asking if everything went ok out there while waiting.he then said "y'all so quiet!, well that´s nice 4 a change",whitch made everybody laugh. this is what I remember him playing: instrumental jam take 5(the old jazzclassic) madhouse 4(long version with many solos) the ballad of dorothy parker/madhouse the question of U-really cool version with some improvised lyrics & incredible guitarplaying. he then said that maybe it´s time 2 get ready 4 the show & open up the doors 4 the rest of the audience he joked about if we would B the only ones there "hmm my career is not going so well these days" THE SHOW:(what I remember right now) the rainbow children pop life(he really got the crowd going on this 1) xenophobia(sooo cool when prince played that really nasty distorted rhodes piano) money don´t matter 2night the work/housequake-he got everybody 2 do that housequake dance.then he made the hilarious ozzy osbourne dance!!! purple rain(starting off with piano, then full band. a real crowdpleaser but this was the best version of all my previous prince-concerts. the ride the other side of the pillow 1+1+1=3/love rollercoaster/pass the peas(even though maceo was´nt there they did this 1.prince played some really funky guitar. when U were mine-great powerful version strange relationship-this was the bomb!prince had this intro playing rhodes and asking us what we thought about swedish radio.everybody screamed at the same time "IT SUCKS!!".prince laughed saying that the radio need 2 put out some mo funk & 2night prince was our radiohost. family name everlasting now then they moved his pianorig 2 the center of the stage. after 10 min prince came back on stage alone by the piano adore-everybody screamed.he did not do the whole song though. diamonds & pearls condition of the heart-beautiful! delerious(not really sure about if this is when he played it) starfish & coffee(not really sure about this either) the beautiful ones-awww.with full band & full version with prince screaming his heart out at the end. massive response from the audience nothing compares 2U-very soulful strollin take me with U raspberry beret sign o´the times-holy shit!!this version was the bomb.really different.more psycadelic.vina!U´d really love this 1 I´m sure. the ladder-THE HIGHPOINT!!!sooo incredibly powereful.it really moved me deeply.EVERYBODY sang along 2 the chourus.breathtaking! days of wild-total jam with lots of people onstage. prince took rhondas bass & rhonda played the rhodes. she is sooo beautiful & sexy!!! afterwards I went 2 the afterparty.I´b brought with me cd´s of my band "da silva",hoping 2 get a chance 2 maybe give some 2 the bandmembers.I did´nt got the oportunity 2 that but I gave prince´s dj a copy at the party where he was playing.no sign of prince or his band though, but I left before 3.am and the party´s going on ´til 5 so I don´t know. I´m gonna try 2 get some sleep now & 2 all the stockholm fans I just want 2 say that it was great meeting y´all and U´re very welcome 2 the "da silva"gig at "lydmar" at sturegatan(by humlegården) oct 30 10pm. peace out/manki

"hmm my career is not going so well these days" Why does it feel strange to hear him say that, even jokingly?? How did people respond to that? I hope y'all showed him ... the ride
WHY must he add this permanently to the setlist AFTER he's toured the US??? It's only one of my favorites!!! sign o´the times-holy shit!!this version was the bomb.really different.more psycadelic.
Trying to think if I've EVER heard him sing this live... Great report, thanks! Get some

I was there 2, first row dead center, right in front of the man. That was a way cool seat, I can tell you..
Some small funny things that Prince did: In the beginning of the concert, somewhere round the housequake part,he started talking about that this was Prince's house, and that everybody should be dancing and clapping their hands 2nite. Even the ushers he added. So he started some funky rythm and made everybody clap their hands. After playing a while, he looked 2 the side and said, "wait a minute, the ushers has stopped dancing and sat down." He then pointed to an usher far to the side, out of my sight. And said, "You, there usher, come here!" He repeadetly told him to come to him, and then took the usher up on stage right next to him. When the usher was there, Prince asked him if he could get funky, the usher just nodded yes, and then Prince said "Ok, get funky then!" And the band played some funky beat and the usher started dancing, with the spotlight on him! Everybody was cracking up in laughter, even Prince, but he catched on, and told the usher to follow his lead. Then they both danced 2gether, with Prince showing the usher the lead and the usher trying to follow Prince's moves. Worthy of mention for the swedish readers, was that Marie from A-teens was there, even at the soundcheck. Prince talked a lot about real music, played by real musicians all night. How he didn't like the radio these days. I wonder what she tought about that, since A-teens is a "real" boy-girl band. But at the end she (Marie) was up on stage doing some dancing, and bumping her ass with my fiance, they both smiling crazy, hhmmm what's up with that! My best Prince concert ever, it was total magic all night. And he is still the best dancer, singer, musician ever!! Even 'tho there were no splits under the whole evening. There was a review of the concert in Aftonbladet this morning giving the concert a 4 out of 5 grade. They obviously wasn't at the concert, it was a 10 out of 5!! There is also mention about an aftershow, and they (Aftonbladet) say that he played there. Can anybody confirm this?

I agree with manki (nice to see you by the way) that it was a superb concert. the order of the songs played was different as i remeber it though.
Sign o' the times was the bomb with the audience singing the whole lyrics. My last prince concert was in 1998 and I went home dissapointed after that one, so I had some fears that the same would happen now. But it didn't. It was among the best prince concerts i've seen. I divide the concerts into three sections: 1. Focusing on the new material with lots of solos by the band and prince. This is my least favorite part of the concert cuz i'm not much into those funk/jazz improvisations. Xenophobia went on for too long in my opinion when everybody got to do a solo. Pop life was fantastic though. 2. Starting with money don't matter 2night the show was fantastic. I've never heard a better version of purple rain and i dont even like that song that much. Strange relationship was absolutely fantastic. SOOO funky. The everlasting now was great when played live. 3. the ending was also excellent. The piano segment that was quite boring in 98 was fantastic this time. What a great falsetto. he really should use it more live. Days of wild just went on and on and on. I hoped it'd never end. But as all great artists he finishes the concert on a high with the crowd begging for more. Fantastic night It will be a great concert week for me. On thursday i'm going to see Bruce Springsteen but i don't think he'll stand a chance against Prince. And neither will MORRISSEY on friday. I'm glad I went to prince's house last night thanks! I woke up sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert

Yes, I'm still dissy in my head. FANTASTIC!!!
It was so GREAT seeing him @ top form again, much better than -98. I was so worked up @ the end I thought I was gonna have a heart attac. 1st time @ front row! No, there was no aftershow and he didn't even sow up 2 the afterparty. But there were obvously plans 4 an aftershow, they were initally planning to take 500 SEK (55USD)for entance @ the afterparty, and a note @ the door said that he was going 2 play, but B4 they let us in they changed the entrance to 200 SEK and told us that he MIGHT play...

The concert was great! Only Stockholm -90 comes close in my book. SOTT was incredibly fUnky!
...No, there was no aftershow and he didn't even show up 2 the... Thank you kaparn, you saved my day ! I went to the place of the afterparty but the place looked so sucky that I seriously doubted that Prince would perform there and I thought 200 was a rip off so I decided not to go. Then I read the headline "Hemlig spelning i natt" [Secret gig last night] in Aftonbladet and felt really sad because I thought I missed my first opportunity to see a club gig with Prince. But obviously the Aftonbladet journalist is smoking crack.

He probably didn't have time 2 check it up B4 their printing
deadline, and just took what was planned 4 a fact...

Did you notice that Prince actually started it off with a few bars from "Whole Lotta Love"? And thanks for the setlist, I had a hard time to try to remember the songs myself because I went from all that funky music and haven't quite recovered yet

Prince should of played more Sly covers dammit. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Hey, anybody react to the fact that Prince has to check the lyrics for his songs, provided by the guy who manages his guitars?
And that he actually, I'm not kidding, began the third line of Sign O the Times with the wrong words? He discovered it immediately, broke it off and said "Hey, I can't hear you", and then had us in the audience sing most of the rest of the song. Anybody else think about this?

He played both Dorothy and The Ladder !?!?!?!?!?
If he does that in Copenhagen I would die, and die happy that is. If he would do "The Morning Papers" as well I would surely go 2 heaven. Well actually I would sell my soul and go 2 hell 4 that... I'll have another glass of you.
this time on the rocks. | |

Stockholm was 'da bomb'!! I still can't believe that I was one of the lucky ones to be picked out to get funky with Prince on the stage during "Days of Wild"!! Also I didn't know until now that the cute girl to the left of me was Marie from A-teens.. Funny! And who was that short guy in front of me doing some incredible dancing? Well I bet I was the only Norwegian guy to get up on the stage in Annexet? I just got back to my hometown now after 2400 km's by car to the Oslo and Stockholm gigs - and it was absolutely worth it!!! Nice to meet you all! And next year I'll be joining the Celebration at Paisley Park, that's for sure!
One more funny thing, during the soundcheck Prince was joking about a tall Norwegian guy who was dancing on the stage at the Oslo gig, wondering if he was following the music or the lyrics.. "I think he was following the horns", he said, "our camera caught him - maybe we should put it out on the internet." It was hilarious for those of us who saw this guy in Oslo... And for sure, Prince did not show up at Debaser - I was there until 3 in the morning when DJ Dudley D (?) was ending his act saying "unfortunately Prince didn't show up tonight", and "maybe because he was tired" when someone asked why... I agree with you, I certainly have a less than perfect memory, but it's just that I've never seen that happen before with Prince. I'm used to him changing a word or two deliberately, but you know, as I understood it, trying to cover up that he missed a line... I was baffled.
