ok,here's MY (late)lakeland report(and good news for nyc) Thank you for the reports, dedonit and blue angel.I was never more proud of being a prince fan and member of the NPGMC as I was Saturday night. The conversations and "get togethers" before the show were the best I have encountered.By the time we were let in the atmosphere was very congenial with ALL NPG as one.NYC get ready because his band and him were MUCH tighter than at the Louisville gig,and they have the seating worked out.It is "first come, first serve.they give out different colored armbands per...50 people i'd say.they let the first fifty in,the next fifty, and so on..
Here's the "tidbits" I remember that i don't think I saw posted. Soundcheck..Prince said that Lenny Kravitz "sends you a big bill" AFTER he guest stars at a show..Told a fan he would not play "I Hate U" and the guy said "up yours"...To which Prince gave the guy an "Oooh" and started to play "Deliverence" and said "What key is this in?I forgot...He asked who we wanted to see at the Celebration. He said he is trying to get Indie(yes!)..He asked if anybody knew who Bernard Allison was.I was the only one that answered, and he said "there's one"..i then said "George Benson"!He looked at me and said "ooh good choice"...the keyboard solo by Renato on "The Ryde" was off the charts....He said he was coming to Europe "very soon" to fans that flew over for the show...People were calling out songs to play and he said "What am I a jukebox"? The show..Najee started TRC in the middle of the crowd..Prince talked about everybody having an uncle that "dances like this"...and did some funky "moonshine dance"..it was a freakin riot!..The piano version of "Purple Rain" was played AFTER he said he would not play it because this was 2002,not 1984..He was so "on" emotionally this night that Take Me With U and Purple Rain were both done with conviction and force, not just "mailed in"...Sometimes It Snows in April,The Other Side of the Pillow,How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore,Nothing Compares 2 U,and Adore were done better than I have EVER seen them done..He played a snippet of "Diamonds and Pearls"during the piano medley...he renamed the guy who played I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man" during the soundcheck "outlaw" while "Family Man" kicked ass...and played simply the best, hardest, and most guitar that I have ever seen him play(he was a guitar maniac on this night). Add to this nice friendly security people(!),great acoustics,a VERY small venue, and a warm, beautiful atmosphere,as well as some spiritual meeting with old friends (they know who they are)as well as meeting new org fams,it turned into a night that i will never forget and will think of fondly forever..New York,be ready. The man is now reaching his stride, and 'cause it's a big city i imagine you WILL get an aftershow as well as the show of a lifetime. Thanks for letting me share..

I almost forgot about the Lenny Kravitz comment. Too funny. The whole night was three funky! It was great meeting and making new Prince friends. Drop me an email sometime. Peace Cause tomorrow is taking too long
and yesterday's too far away and the reality that you believe in begins to bind.

The guy didn't say, "Up yours!" He said, "I'm Yours." And then Prince tried to play "I'm Yours." "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Can someone tell me what P meant by his Lenny Kravitz comment?? I thought they were pals, but the comment sounded quite sarcastic and unfriendly to me.

Maybe it meant that Lenny Kravitz "sends you a big bill" after he makes an appearance.

I hope THIS is the true version of what happened. I'd be horrified if someone said, "up yours" to him!
