[SOLVED] Q about "Heaven Must Be Near" *Cassette* Hi,
something for the serious collectors...
I recently (almost) completed my collection catalogue with the help of www.discogs.com but I need some help. I stumbled upon a cassette single by Ingrid Chavez that wasn't listen at Discogs. I added it, so for all info on my copy see here:
https://www.discogs.com/I...e/10002095
Here's the interesting bits:
- Both versions are not released on album, neither on the 2x12" promo or as part of the Paisley Storm cassette promo.
- princevault.com lists them as unreleased versions - they appear to be the versions intended for single release.
- Publishing and label credits are not identical with other Ingrid Chavez releases. They even are different from the same track's later credits.
- The cassette has Reprise records as a label which is gone later.
- While the song later is credited to publishers Skyfish Music/Girlsongs/Michael Anthony Music, the cassette states Michael Anthony Music/Controversy Music/Dirgni Productions ("Dirgni" clearly is "Ingrid" spelled backwards).
Well, I can't find any info on any site on this cassette. None. It is listed nowhere.
Does anyone *have* this cassette or *know* if it has been withdrawn?
Thx! [Edited 4/28/17 14:03pm] |

No reply... So, does that mean that it's a fully designed item with cat# and all, and nobody owns it or has heard of it?
That's weird.
I guess I have to go through my old invoices to see where it came from. |

Ingrid is pretty accessible on social media. Maybe you could ask her directly? I would love to hear her input. I've never seen this cassette but the album its from is one of my guilty pleasures! |

Actually, I just sent a mail to her (her management). Thanks for the hint - if the mail doesn't work I'll try social media! |

Guys, I think we have an answer.
From Michael Pearson, Ingrid's manager:
First, I am quite jealous as the cassette single is very rare. [..]
As we all know, the official single for HMBN never made it. But they issued the 2x12" promo, and first, a single and maxi single CD were planned.
However they scrapped the plans.
It's also the reason for the different publisher because Starfish Music wasn't established yet.
Unfortunately, I still don't know where I got the cassette. I browsed invoices from about 800 items of my collection, dating from 1995-2017. Nothing. Have to take a deep dive into my old issues of Record Collector. Maybe I find something in there.
But, there you have it: There might be a few cassettes around, fully designed and printed. Maybe even a CD single.
Btw, I encountered a very similar case with a CD release from Aimee Mann. "Whatever" as a 2CD deluxe version. Neither her management nor Aimee heard about it. But it's an official BMG CD that has never been on the market. |
