PRINCE GOLD GUN MIC

Just curious, say someone had a gold gun mic used by Prince; how much would you be willing to pay, to acquire it?

Free the music.

Stolen Property? Gee, guess you were there when he took it, right. Although I have my doubts Prince gave these away, you never know. Just like I had my doubts about the former Prince keyboard tech selling "Prince's Stage Piano," I have doubts here. I am not going to post anything about this guy stealing the mic...not fair if you were not there.

I thought the mic itself was pretty immature for a man of his age at the time. Then again, he let Tony M in the band, and compared himself to slaves for signing a multi-million record deal. Of course at age 34, he wasn't old enough to learn or understand what masters were, until somebody explained it to him at the ancient age of 36 or whatever. As dopey as it would have been for Prince to appear in MJ's Bad Video, it might have sparked a friendship where MJ taught Prince the music business or had somebody consult him.

MJ died of a drugs overdose age 52 with millions of dollars of debt.

Prince owns his own record company and studios, gets all the profits and is in complete control of everythting from 1998 onwards

Yep Prince is in real need of advice

But on topic if someone owns a stage used gun mic stolen or not they will be raking in the money

First Things here:

1. I am a Prince fan first, U2 fan second, and then it is either MJ, Stevie Wonder, or Sting/Police tied for third. Prince to me is better than U2, MJ, and The Beatles...ALL COMBINED.

Business sense: MJ was head over heels the better man when it came to Music Business sense. MJ Bought the Beatles Publishing. Prince invested in Tony M, and some bad Star Trek Next Generation outfits for his DAP Band to wear. Prince signed away his Masters at 34 ONCE AGAIN, due to not knowing a thing about the Music Industry. It is one thing to be naive at 20 when he released For You. It is a whole different MONSTER to not know about the business at 34. And to top it off, he looked like a total ASS for putting slave on his face.

I could use other Artists here. Sure, MJ died spending money like he was Bill Gates, but his estate is doing fine now. Had he lived, the 50 shows in London would have given him much income, and he was rumored to have been offered tons to have a Vegas show.

Let's take U2: Much more business sense than Prince. They took time between albums to make the market hungry. They did not flood the market. They played it safe much of their career, but they also took chances like they did with "Pop," in 1997..the best U2 album nobody has really listened to. They did not re-record Sunday Bloody Sunday with a rapper.

I love Prince like a brother. I would have been honest as a brother, and tried to keep him away from some of the career suicide decisions. I believe Prince should have been the biggest. He has the songs, but he fired Managers to the point where he was managing his Management. He hasn't had any true direction from his organization since 1989, since then it has been yes-men fighting to keep their job.

Oh don't get me wrong either I love MJ aswell bless him and I do think Prince has made some boo boo's when it's come to the business end of the industry

However the fact is it doesn't matter what you invest in (even the Beatles back catalogue) if you spend more than it's worth (which he did) then you are in debt and that is a poor poor business dicision. Also what's the point in your estate doing well if you were such a wreck that you overdose on painkillers and are not around to be there for it.

Prince's name change and near bancruptcy in the mid 90s lead him to change the way he does business to suit him rather than fit the industry model. He said himself that he made more money from New Power Soul and Crystal Ball than he ever did from Purple Rain.

As for U2 master business men the really suit the industry perfectly they are the textbook band how to make money industry..... Creativly...mmmmmmmm.. not my thing but hey it works for them so i'm sure they're not losing any sleep

chopingard: You make some good points here...though I am sometimes Bart like in my attacks, I am not trying to cut you down, just making my own opinions. Thanks for the discussion.

Prince tends to isolate the truth to make things positive in his own way. He never accepted that Graffiti Bridge was bad, he merely compared it to the Wizard of Oz, which took a few years to cacth on, and asked for us to give Bridge the test of time. I have, and Bridge still stinks. NPS and Crystal Ball may have made him more net revenue just off sales, but Purple Rain gave him that luxuary in the first place. So to suggest NPS and Crystal Ball really did anything for him is misguided. I won't argue about MJ much more...I think This is It shows he wasn't a full time druggie, he just couldn't tour without drugs covering up the pain from too many previous injuries..

U2? The trilogy of Achtung Baby, Zooropa, and Pop...was NOT playing it safe. To follow up the Joshua Tree era with 3 straight bold releases was stuff legends are made of. (I'm discounting the very Joshua Tree like live/studio mix album Rattle And Hum, though it was very good.)

Now lately, the latest trilogy: All that You Can't Leave, Atomic Bomb, and No Line Horizon...

That is U2 playing it safe. At least they took enough time between releases so somebody was waiting for them. There is so much stuff in the Prince section...most buyers are confused.

Prince could've released a new album every 3-5 years, and to keep the diehards happy???

He could've released 3-5 CD Box Sets of outtakes in between major releases to hold us over. That way, his reputation is not ruined by too many major releases, and us junkies get our fix. This was the strategy I came up with for him in 1988 when Lovesexy undersold. Of course, in 1988 nobody would listen to me. Then again, it is 2010, still nobody listening. lol
