Cause Madhouse is cool. They have been selling Prince for years. They go out of the way for Prince fans. They will continue to do so. It is important to keep them in business by supporting them. I am sure Dez got what he felt was fair since Madhouse bought them from him.

Also please notice Madhouse's price is reasonable.

Kept his store open this long. A store that specializes in Prince items...rare ones. In these days of corporations buying larger quantities and selling at lower cost (re. Wal-Mart in the US) it is hard for stores like his to remain open. What’s wrong with him making a profit? He is working hard for it. We need to support stores like him.

You and I have no idea the amount of time and effort he puts into his business. Competition is stiff. Personally it is good to know stores like his still exist. Kind of reminds me why I buy from my local hardware store, sure I know they cost a little bit more than a place like Home Depot or Menards but I also know the quality of service that I receive is a lot higher. Madhouse has an excellent reputation at packing their stuff and taking care of their customers.

Others who know Madhouse can speak for themselves on his reputation.

Madhouse goes the extra mile to find Prince items all around the world.

If you want something cheap, go find it at walmart. If you want something special call Madhouse.

You never answered the Q. So have another go. Are you saying Adrians Contribution is staying open for us?

Did Chris and the Revolution fold for love?

Did Eileen quit for devotion?

Did The purple underground dig deeper?

Questions Questions.....

I am saying Adrian does what he does for the love of music. So did, Chris. I know why Eileen quit, she was told too. She was the first fan to get screwed. BTW you do know that Chris knew Prince don't you?

Purple Underground. Well they went as deep as you could. But that was long ago in another space and time.

Some people grow up and move on...some people never change and live in the past thinking because they haven't change, everyone else is probably the same too.

With all due respect Nathan (which lets be honest, with your history ain't a lot) - that's absolute bollocks

If Adrian ran madhouse purely for love then he wouldn't charge the prices he does.

You could never compare Eileen and the Uptown guys to Adrian and Dawson as the former two have always been open about working on a "cost" basis whereas it's well known and obvious that the other two have shown money to be a primary motivator - even to the point where Chris was in trouble with the police for his actions. Plus the fact that many many people never got their money back after "The Truth Magazine" fiasco (which Dawson was behind).

There's nothing wrong with Adrian making a profit - hey we all have to make a living from something - just don't patronise us with the "he's doing it for the fans" line.

freakyfeet, you don't know my history.

Adrian does what he does for the love of music. All am saying is we as fans are lucky to have stores like his. There are many postive aspects to stores like this operating around the world for Prince fans.

You can choose to buy from him or not. It is your choice. Either way, he will still continue to sell at whatever price he chooses. With or without you as a customer.

Anyone here can choose who they buy or sell to. If you don't buy from a person it is not going to stop someone from buying it if they really want to.

Obviously Adrian is doing something right as he has remained in business all these years. You may not like his pricing but you cannot deny his longevity.

Perhaps you should open your own store and sell things and rock bottom prices?

you have completely twisted my point

I am saying that there is NOTHING WRONG with Adrian making a profit.

The point I am making is that he does not do this purely as a labour of love and only keeps the store open for the fans. He keeps the store open as long as it makes a living for him.

If the store was losing money, he'd close it, just like Chris D closed his many years back.

Saying Chris "knew" Prince is taking it a little too far. There were intros, and nothing more. If he little conversations count, then hey, I know Prince too then.

He probably knows Prince more now, but back them it was seriously overstated.

And i don't think Eileen got screwed over. I think she was naive.

Your saying that you know for a fact Prince and Chris never sat down and had a one on one meeting? Yes each of our denfinition of "I know this person" is perhaps a bit different. I know of Prince. I know his way. I have met him and been around him alot. But I can't say I know him personally.

Chris probably knows Prince more know through his attorneys.

Eileen was naive. She also did sneaky things to other fans to postion herself. Notice how she is not around anymore. Was she a Prince fan at all? Or just a business person?

Eileen realised that Prince only ever cares about one person - Prince.

Just ask Eileen, any musician that worked with him, any employee of PP, or especially Mayte.

Don't put words in my mouth. I was there the afternoon Chris got his Prince meet. I was sitting next to Chris when P sung "Condition Of The Heart" "for Christopher" at Wembley.

I was there when P threw Controversy Mag out the window of the tour bus.

I was there when Controversy issue one was being developed. Chris's idea, Eileens development.

I don't need telling who thought of what.

I just find it funny. Some of the most creative Prince fans seem to give the ideas only to have other people carry them on a develop them. Didn't Prince have a 900 line that just sucked?

Wasn't the concept for and online Prince website with downloadable music with a monthly fee thought of by Chuck Hermes back in 1993 or 94 as thedawn.com using firstclass? I seen the artwork for this. It was amazing. Chuck was and is very creative.

I worked with Eileen as well back in the day (worked meaning sent her information...I think I wrote an article on sign of the times.). As I recall Eileen (who did in fact pass around unreleased tapes to "share") became anti unreleased music and scolded anyone who worked with her on it's practice. Linda Everrett went on to sell some (one of the first Prince bootleggers?) for just enough to pay for postage and the tapes (and maybe some time). But then Eileen booted her. She booted me when she found out me an Linda where friends and traded tapes. Eileen then started the rumours going (I have letters from her discrediting peole).

I remember the first bootleg tape was teh Parade outtake. Theres others here with us etc. Now thats when trading tapes was fun. Before it got into this big poltical thing it is now (or was when bootleg CD's became rampant). I don't trade unreleased stuff cause everything will eventually get released. Thats my philosphy. And if it don't. It's probably not any good any nore would I want to hear it. LOL

SM, tell us some old school stories. Take as back...back to the day. When you had a fro. LOL smile

Here is the latest pricing for the double CD and book:

Dez on ebay: $59.00 (postage US $5.00, global $9.00)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB...eName=WDVW
includes bonus one man CD

Madhouse $68.38
for just double CD
postage approx. $3.90 in UK and $11 USA

www.dezdickerson.com
double CD is $50.00
book is $29.00

I thought this was an interesting related opinion about the cost of the CD in general:

Isn't Dez now selling the double disc for $59.00? Wasn't it previosuly $50.00?

Price is still $50 on his website, shipping is extra $5 US, $9 intl. I do not know if pre orders were charged shipping. I bought it from the eBay auction 2 days ago for $50 + $9 s&h to UK, and this includes a bonus Oneman cd.

In this case I feel Madhouse is being extremly fair in it's pricing. Madhouse is selling the two CD with the book for $68.38. The book on it's own is $42.73 on the Madhouse site. I don't see the price for the CD's by themselves on the Madhosue site.

You are entitled to your opinion on Madhouse's pricing, however you are mistaking what is included in the price.

Here you have a posting on ebay selling this double CD for $59.00 (or near that amount) and Madhouse selling the CD's with the book for only $9.00 more.

You are mistaken - the book listed with the cd set is the A4 liner notes and photo book that is included with ALL of the Dez-trospective sets, not "My time with Prince" which is the book being listed seperately on MH.

Which is the better deal for those that want both?

As you have totally mistaken what is included, I would suggest you "do the math" again with the relevant information. It is still cheaper to buy the Dez-trospective set directly from Dez for $50, plus shipping. Buy it from MH is $68.38 plus shipping (which you have carefully avoided mentioning in your comparison)

Madhouse is the cheapest place to purchase the double Dez CD and book on the planet!

Nope, again, check the facts. Dez is cheaper as he is selling the cd set for $50 plus the book for $29.95, a total of $79.95 plus shipping fees. MH is selling the book for $42.73 and the Dez-trospective for $68.38 which is a total of $111.11 plus shipping fees. Quite easy to work out when you know what you are talking about.
As a company Madhouse can charge whatever the market will bear - however, when they list something here it is quite reasonable for it to be pointed out that the item is still available to buy directly from the artist/producer for less than they are asking.
Whatever your relationship with/opinions of Madhouse, you should check your facts before posting such obviously biased and incorrect information as you have in your post quoted here.

EDIT>>>I am glad I quoted you before you edited your post - your facts are still wrong with regards to "the book" you claim is included with MH sale.

And yet you still manage to avoid adding the postage costs for Madhouse and still haven't worked out that the book is part of the CD set and not some kind of bonus that MH are including out of the goodness of their hearts!
MH postage for this set would appear to be approx £2 in UK ($3.90) or £6 to US ($11).
Get your facts straight, please.
Oh, and on his website the price is still $50 plus s&h, although that does not include the bonus Oneman cd.

Yea I did original misread Madhouse post. The booklet was the 50 page CD booklet not the actual Dez book. I have since corrected.

SM, was the first Purple Rain outtakes? I know both of them were circualting around that time (circa late 80's). And I am talking about in circulation and unreleased - not live shows)

Also, wasn't the first "album" bootleg the double wembly album? I know previous to that their was dance mic 12" bootlegs which I am not counting in this case.

BTW I did not know that was a squirrel in your SOTT picture. You should blow that up and put it in your profile. Very comical. smile

P.S. Someone here at the org should put a gallery of user icons together. Or have people submit them. Maybe blow them up to 400 X 400. Some of them are very humours.
