Parliament/Funkadelic

Hi everyone
For some time, Parliament and Funkadelic have been two bands of my interest over the last few months.
I own only one album by Parliament which is "Funkentelechy vs The Placebo Syndrome" and yes...i always find myself groovin to 'Flashlight'.
I don't own any Funkadelic albums but just last night, I saw this video of a 1983 P-Funk concert where Eddie Hazel and Michael Hampton played their asses off on 'Maggot Brain'.
If there are any hardcore P-Funk fans here, could ya recommend me some stuff to get to make my funk the P-Funk?

Hmm, you can't really go wrong with anything released from 1970-1983. Avoid the "Funkadelic" album Connections And Disconnections. It's not really Funkadelic just some disgruntled former members. Some Funkadelic highlights would be the Maggot Brain album (1971) and One Nation Under A Groove (1978). Bootsy Collins (Bootsy's Rubber Band) also released several great albums in the late '70s. I'll have to get back to you.

You can´t go wrong with standing on the verge of getting it on and one nation under the groove. It´s the place to star IMO.

then get everything. but these two are a must have.

who says a funk band can´t play rock?

Okay, I just had to get some titles straight. For Parliament two other great albums are Mothership Connection (1975) and Motor Booty Affair (1978). There is also a pretty great 2 cd compilation, Tear The Roof Off The Sucker 1974-1980. There are two great Funkadelic compilations both 2 cd sets. Music For Your Mother-Funkadelic 45s collects their singles from 1969-1976. Motor City Madness The Ultimate Collection is similar but it features many album tracks. It also covers the 1969-1976 era. Motor City Madness is probably the best compilation available. There is a great Bootsy compilation called Glory Be Da Funk's On Me. It is yet another 2 cd set. It has nearly all of the Bootsy anybody needs. A personal favourite of mine is the Parliament album Osmium from 1970. Also George Clinton's Computer Games and the P. Funk All Stars' Urban Dancefloor Guerillas are two great latter day (1982 and 1983) releases. I think the "worst" album from this era (1970-1983) is Parliaments Gloryhallastupid (1979). You might want to avoid that one.

Hope you enjoy whatever you decide to purchase. There is a ton of great funk for you to discover!
