Alicia Keys- "Ain't Got You" instant classic..

I am not a huge Alicia fan, but I've heard "I Ain't Got You' many times now, I've learned it on piano, and it's official... this is a classic slow jam. It's a real song, and I believe it is not even a sample or a cover song.. If I'm wrong let me know..

This song is a masterpiece with the old soul sound. It reminds me of a Gladys song or something.. Anyone agree???

Go buy Tony, Toni, Tone's House of Music CD, and give a listen to the song " WildChild ". To me at least, these songs sound similar. Maybe it's the association with D'Wayne Wiggins who produced her song. But I agree with you that it's a soul classic. I love that girl.

My apologies, but in my first post I said that D'Wayne Wiggins produced " If I ain't Got you " which is an error. After checking the liner notes and credits in the CD booklet, he is not on this song but was involved in other songs on her CD. Maybe I was confused, but I am humble enough to correct myself. wink lol

The piano intro has the same chords as a gospel song from back in the day called "Be Staedfast." Can't remember the artist right now, though. confuse and I don't know if Alicia heard the song before, but it's "ironic" how it's the same pattern.

Does the soloist towards the end go... (as if you can really hear me rolleyes)

"Hang on in there!"
(Hang on in there!)
Haaaaang on in there!"

I just remember my sister singing it in the black choir at UGA when I was a young buck. giggle

I'm glad you guys like it. It does absolutely nothing for me. Classic would suggest that 20 years from now, folks will be playing it. I don't get that feeling with this song.

I've always though "instant classic" was a bit of an oxymoron.

His 2nd album was a hard slap on the face esp after his groundbreaking debut album.

As much as I like it (and I DO) I wouldn't dare call it classic... maybe classic for HER music, lol, but not a true "classic"...
