Wasn't Janet Jackson on "Icon"? I'm still trying to figure out how she got it over Michael, Prince, and Madonna....they've all been out longer than her. confused What's next? "Icon: Justin Timberlake"?

Prince or Madonna would be great this year but who would they get to perform you think? Who would sound good performing P songs? That would be a tuffy!

Yes, she is; there's no denying that. smile But, Icon over Madonna, Prince, and Micheal? Her's was really good though. I loved seeing her evolve over the years. She's fabulous!

let me clear up the rumours...to date MTV has aired three ICONS (in order)

Janet J.
Aerosmith
Metallica

Limp Bizkit PERFORMED "Santarium" at Metallica's ICON but did not have their own ICON show.

Madonna has been asked, she's refused.

I think Prince has refused it too, but I am not sure. I know for certain that Madonna has turned it down.

I heard she declined because at the time she was really against her old hits, kinda why they didn't appear in the DWT. She more than likely didn't want to sit through other people butching songs she all ready disliked. Also Music was selling well on its own so it didn't need the promotion. Janet's All For You was just coming out so when Madonna declined they asked janet.

I'm know I'm biased...lol...but I think Maddy is the greatest video artist of all time.Michael did three excellent videos ("Billie Jean","Beat It" and of course "Thriller"),but Madonna has been more consistent, when it comes to making outstanding videos.

rolleyes I remember not being overwhelmed by the "Bad" videos. The title track video is just plain tacky (Prince was smart not to appear in it)..."The Way You Make Me Feel" was uneventful....the only great video from this project was "Smooth Criminal".In later years, his "Earth Song" video was cool, but like I said,Madonna's been more consistent with her videos.

Personal taste I guess man. I disagree with you. "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Smooth Criminal", "Leave Me Alone", "Black Or White", "Remember The Time", "In The Closet", "Jam", "Give In To Me", "Scream", "You Are Not Alone", "Earth Song", "They Don't Care about Us" (both Brazil and Prison versions) are all great video's IMO cool

Not to mention stuff like Captain Eo and Ghosts.

I'm not a huge fan of either MJ or Madonna (although I do like them both) but without even thinking about it I can name several outstanding MJ videos : The 3 you mentioned of course, Man in the mirror, Black or white, Earth song, and possibly the best video ever made : Scream.

Without even thinking about it I can name... no Madonna video that strikes me as outstanding. Not a one.

I don't follow Madge's career too closely so I may have missed the outstanding videos, so which ones are they ?
I think perhaps 'controversial' is being confused with 'outstanding'.

Then again, as far as I know she doesn't allocate millions for each video, which is probably where the difference is. If you throw tons of money at every video you're bound to hit 'outstanding' at least some of the time.

I think Madonna sometimes tries do what MJ does when it comes to videos...

MJ and JJ did Scream then you got Bed Time Stories...their style is SO similar
MJ did Earth Song then you got Frozen...Even frozen the song reminds me of earth song..
mj sang: ahaaaaa... in EarthS and madonna sang: hmmmmm...
And Madonna has many videos which is so much like Who Is It video

And Thriller is NOT the best video its GHOSTS(the full version 35min)...Pure brilliance...The story is written by MJ and Stephen King btw.

Oh please,Madonna is KNOWN for outstanding videos! Her videos are notorious for being edgy, provocative, stylish and brazenly bizarre (just like her concerts).

Well, of those you've listed I don't recall seeing the last 4, so no comment on those. Of the others, I personally wouldn't rate any of them as outstanding. I agree with you that her videos are generally edgy, provocative, stylish and brazenly bizarre, and a hell of a lot more entertaining than your average video. They just don't strike me as outstanding, at least not when compared with the likes of Scream or Black and White.

Then again, I'm probably not the best person in the world to discuss videos with, I dislike most of them (particularly faux-live-performance videos) and I think the majority of people making them fail to grasp the idea that the video should enhance the song.
