absolutely...
i bought the Van Hunt album the day after i saw him perform on Conan Obrien a month or two back....

we LOVE that record...that cd is the one thats getting the most constant current rotation in our house at the moment.

nice melodies, production, delivery and songwriting. For me it stands up on its own, without any comparisons to Prince at all. Van Hunt is just a damn catchy album period.

BTW i'm only speaking about the album, i haven't seen any video or anything so i don't know about any Prince like stuff there...

but like i said, the record itself doesn't remind me of Prince at all really. It stands on its own. Although I'm sure that Prince is ONE of MANY influences that Van Hunt has had over the years...but Prince isn't the first artist i think about when i listen to the Van Hunt record at all. If anything Van Hunts voice reminds me more of Curtis Mayfield. His music and production don't really sound like Prince's stuff has been sounding either... Van Hunts stuff has a fresher more honest feel to it and his hooks and melodies are very infectious...some of prince's stuff seems to be getting a little stale for me.

(FYI: I just got Musicology yesterday and am going listen to it this afternoon, so P could proove me wrong. Hope he does, but i doubt it.)

But again, I guess your comparison of Van Hunt & Prince was mainly regarding the video and multiinstrumentalist part right? Sure they may have similarities there, i'll give ya that. But the record stands on its own merits imo.

His album is the best I've heard this year (so far.) I dig just about every song on the album, but my favorite songs have to be "What Can I Say," "Her December," and "Out Of The Sky."

I would like to know the name of the lil' jam session before and after this song. Way too funky!!! headbang In the same vibe as Stevie Wonder and his Wonderlove band.

I don't think Prince when I hear Van Hunt. He's very impressive, and I really like his album. One of the best I've heard in a while.

Yeah, you can easily hear her talking, singing and laughing on the track.

I agree...I don't remotely think of Prince and I don't like the song Dust but I enjoy the rest of the cd.
