To prepare for the role in 'Evita',Madonna had to take extensive voice lessons. And since then, she is singing SO much better than before.Listen to the Evita soundtrack and the 'Ray Of Light' album.....she's hitting notes like never before!! That's what I mean when I say "evolve".As an artist, you must grow, improve and get BETTER with each new release.

i am sooo well aware of all that, lol! i have been listening and following that woman since the beginning. even when i'm not interested in an album of hers, i still pay attention. she's got it like that, lol. my point was that, with evita, she actually sounded like a singer. yeah, the notes were dropped a pitch or two so she could match the music, but she did a great job nonetheless. listening to her sing live now can sometimes be painful, though. even you've got to admit (or somebody here on the org...back me up, lol) that she sounded rough on the DWT.

the DWT consisted of mostly songs from 'ROL' and 'Music'. Those are,for the most part, techno-styled songs (relying on alot of vocoders and other studio tricks).I think those songs were difficult to sing in a live setting and some songs, such as "Ray Of Light' and "Impressive Instant" sounded less-than-thrilling when played at a concert. But I think she sounded good, especially on slower songs like "Gone" and "La Isla Bonita".However,Britney Spears sounds bad no matter WHAT the circumstances...lol...

Madonna's music was touch and go, just like Britney's records. You folks seem to forget weak ass records like the Dick Tracy Soundtrack, which, besides VOGUE, was a piece of crap. "True Blue" was a boring ass yawner overall. La Isla Bonita? What the hell was that?

She went through phases that were just painful to watch while she experimented with looks and directions that were definitely NOT her.

So, to say that Madonna did it so much better than Britney, I can only assume most of you weren't there at the time. Bedtime Story - when she sat and read a frickin bedtime story on MTV? Just stupid as hell. STUPID. Not even interesting.

And, more recently, before you tell me that she's a lot better now, did you people HEAR "American Pie"? Oh Lord.

I like Madonna. I do. But just like every other pop star, she's had hits and misses. I like Britney too. Her shows are nothing but fluff, but who the hell cares? Britney has no talent? Then how come she's selling out a fucking arena? Whatever she's doing, it's SOMETHING successful. People have been expecting her to fail since her first fluff record. And she's still here and she'll probably be compared to Madonna her entire life, just like P gets compared to James Brown, Hendrix and Zamfir.

I agree. I liked her performance during the DWT. Do we fault Dylan because his voice isn't top notch? No, because his songs are so good. (NOTE: NOT comparing Madonna to Dylan, but it's the same sort of idea). Madonna's voice is not perfect, but that's what's endearing about it. Very few major pop stars these days have the guts to sing live, and I respect her for doing that.

And Britney has never performed live. She has always used a backing track. She cannot sing without studio pitch and tone correction.

Do I want Madonna to use a backing track on this tour? HELL NO! I pay for singing, and that's what I expect to get. I don't care if her voice is not perfect - very few artists sound flawless live. If I wanted to see her dance to a backing track I could watch a music video.

Janet has been playing this role since 1993.But when that's all you have to offer,it all becomes boring, tired and one-dimensional.

.

But Janet broke off from that and all her singles werent all about that. Plus she has been sexual since Control "Funny How Time..." then "Someday Is 2nite".

Now, with the Damita Jo album i know...she's going there again. But when u go 2 a Janet show...there's only one sex song / scene done (and she does a fucking good job at it). The rest is theateratrical nad exciting.

Nonsense, Britney is the Michelle Shocked of the 21st Century. The stupid little world just hasn't caught up with her yet.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. However, she once had the mic on when the backing track was playing and from time to time she'd add an arbitrary "yeah", "hey" etc. And I do have to say, even with just one syllable adlibbing I thought the voice was very weak. It would sound just absolutely hilarious with the top-notch produced musical backings.

You could also hear the huge gasps of breath she was taking because of the dance steps...
