Crazy prince news in the latest "popbitch": Paisley Park no more?

POPBITCH 17.03.04 *ISSUE 202*

>> Prince's Paisley payday <<
Money Don't Matter 2 Night

Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame this week and publicly renounced
his sexually explicit past. It looks like he's
about to say goodbye to his iconic studios
Paisley Park soon as well.

Sony and Time Warner are making multi-million
dollar bids for the huge complex to turn it into
an "American Music Hub" which they think can
cut their recording budgets considerably, not
to mention turning Paisley Park into a
modern day Graceland-style tourist attraction.

So when Jacko goes down, will somebody please
buy Neverland so we can all go and see the
wanking monkeys and paedo-playground?

I don't know about this shit. Although I'm not sure how often P plays at the park anymore, it still doesn't seem likely that he would ditch the joint in this "garrage sale" type of manner. And besides, if W/bro, or Sony (two multi billion dollar conglomerates) wanted a facility such as this, they would hardly need to purchase it from P. They would simply have it built. PopBitch is just that. A rumor gossip website. It is highly unlikely that Prince would turn his pride and joy, Paisley Park, into a Graceland of sorts. Of course he likes money but how crazy would Prince have to be to sell this gem to the likes of Warner Brothers who caused him so much anguish? The last rumor like this I heard was that they tore Paisley Park down when in fact it was just the old purple house he allowed his Father to spend his last days in. MinneapolisFunk

Question-Did P actually renounce his sexually explicit past? Also, has he ever announced that he is in fact a devout J.W.? Am I so out of the loop?

He isn't playing most of his sexually explicit songs anymore because they conflict with his spiritual views. This has been greatly exagerrated by the press that he has put out some sort of proclamation that he wants nothing to do with his old songs (which is BS). Basically, he's toning it down for his spiritual beliefs, as well as the fact that he feels that everyone is doing the overt sexual thing nowdays.

He has also never made an official statement that he is a JW, just that he was studying with them. One Orger said Larry Graham told him that P was, essentially a JW, but that he hasn't gone through the baptism process. His lyrics and discussions over the last 6 years or so pretty much confirm that his beliefs are essentially in line with the JW faith, and he has been seen in Kingdom Halls across the country. He has also, according to one report, gone door to door at least once.

That being said, if Prince is really singing Controversy complete with the lyrics "..people call me rude, I wish we all were nude.." as he reportedly did in NYC, then what is there to worry about?

I can see this happening, Prince is spending more and more time away from PP, the costs I once read are $6m a year for this place, which is why he has to keep touring because his albums arnt making enough to keep the place running. Its also why bands can hire it, but still the place is not making any money. If this story is true, its not a shock to me at all.

How would buying a facility in Minn. help cut costs?
If the music biz is mostly located in LA & NY
why would they want the PP studios?
Everyone will have to fly in & out plus living costs.
This rumour makes no sense.

Now if you said PP was being sold
to put in luxury condos or low income housing
I might fall for that story.

Heh. Luxury condos maybe (but then it's next to a ligh-industrial park), but low-income housing... I don't see the city of Chanhassen agreeing to that, unless the State is pressuring them smile

Not sure it costs $6M a year to run; I think it cost around $6M to build at first. But, I'm sure the bills are significant, regardless.

My gut feeling is that this is unlikely to be true, but Popbitch has gotten some crazy stuff right in the past. I worry that maybe Mani has convinced him to move permanently to Canada... and his house there has a pretty kickass studio in it from what I hear. I guess we'll see, in time!

Well, lets think about this..... They said Prince bull dozed that Lovely house in Chanhassen and his Dads home out side MPLS...
Remember when he SWORE to us that he would never ever EVER leave Minnesota... NEVER!!!!! HA... He sure changed his tune IF this rumor is true.. but I guess we won't know until it actually happens....
But I would not put anything past him..
I know time has to move on..... But I am sorry. I do miss the Prince of the 80's!!!!! Just my opinion.....
Miss the nasty, funky, dancable grooves.. guess I am just gettin' old..
Peace to all!

Gawd, just the thought of a purple Graceland is enough to give me nightmares.

Does he record his own work anywhere else besides PP? I can't see him selling the place where he does most of his recording. Also, Popbitch? Even among gossip sites they have a reputation for being unreliable.

I think there may b some merit to this especially since he recently tore down the purple mansion. mayb he is truly cutting all ties with the twin cities.

I dunno, maybe if Prince could negotiate the return of his masters for the exchange of paisley park, maybe paisley park will be a memory for all to tour..

I'd be really happy if Prince sold Paisley Park. I don't like it when artists build themselves a fantasy world and then disappear into it. What usually happens is they lose touch with reality and stop making relevant art. I keep thinking about what director Kevin Smith witnessed at the Park and how crazy it all sounded to the average person. In the long run I think the music has suffered for it. It's like that line from that Fleetwood Mac song, "Rulers make bad lovers, you better put kingdom up for sale". These days he seems to be in a 'cleaning house' mood (retiring songs) and wants to move in new directions. I say great! I hope he ditches Paisley Park and all that New Power Generation stuff! Start fresh with some completely new concepts!

I tend 2 agree here. BUT 'IF' it pans out and Prince chooses to get PP off his bank roll...i would think it's more likely due 2 the fact that he wants the family life he's always wanted and sometime sacrifices like these are made. PP was great for what is was. It served it's purpose. Maybe he would like 2 move 2 that next level that life has to offer him and Mani. He's done it all the the music industry. He is the king. No disputing that. If he feels he needs 2 make this change 2 b happier on the family level..then all i have 2 say is I wish him true happiness wherever he winds up. I hope he has little Prince's and Princess's soon.
As Fams..we need to stand by whatever his decision. It's his life..we can't live it for him.
No whining. I doubt he would ever sell it to WBrothers though after all that went down unless he has forgiven them making amends. It's a strong possibility especially when faith drives a person 2 be forgiving.

It may not even b true people, but I would not be surprised if it were. Nothing surprises me when it comes 2 this man.

Prince should move to California is what he should do where the band is and where Most of his friends are. He belongs in Hollywood. Prince belongs in BEL-AIR or Beverly Hills.
