TOP 10 selling singles in 2003

Clay Aiken's "This Is the Night" and Ruben Studdard's "Flying Without Wings" were the top two sellers, moving 948,155 and 728,243 units respectively. Neither was a big radio-airplay hit, illustrating a disconnect between mostly young single buyers and radio stations targeting broader audiences.

The American Idol finalists' version of "God Bless the USA," a single that received virtually no radio airplay, was the fourth-best-selling single with 309,655. (Kid Rock's "Picture" was third with 392,489 and Hilary Duff's "So Yesterday" rounded out the top five with 141,360. Both were radio hits.)

The rest of the top 10: Korn's "Did My Time" (132,967); The Eagles' "Hole in the World" (121,376); Mariah Carey's "Through the Rain" (116,785); Aaliyah's "Miss You" (98,358); Jewel's "Intuition" (96,142). Only the last two achieved widespread radio success.

singles sales are pretty irrelevant these days. i read a statistic that the numbers for today's #1 sellers for a week wouldn't have even cracked the Hot 100 back in 1991, and that was when it was based mostly on sales.

and today... a #1 seller isn't enough to crack the Hot 100, because they don't sell well and radio accounts for most of the chart points.

Madonna's many singles didn't even rank in the Top Ten, huh?

This was sold exclusively by Best Buy and they positioned everywhere in their stores when it came out with a sale price of 5.99...I think it was an EP of some sort. It was later distributed to other retail...

thats because madonna is over, i would be surprised if any madonna stuff is in the top 40 of 2003!

her album flopped in america!

Janet is the Queen of Pop, All 4 U sold over 3million units in the US alone, and the singles were very successful, her new album should do even better!
