Janet's Control album needs to be remastered? What do you all think?

hadn't really thought about it.

who owns the company that used to be A&M now? Universal? i don't recall.

would that company need to have an agreement with Janet to do it? (what i'm getting at is the reason why Prince's stuff doesn't get remastered -- he's not at that label anymore).

Maybe it will get remastered in 2006 to celebrate the 20th anniversary. "You can be mine" is one of my faves from Control.

"You Can Be Mine" aint all that special 2 me, i never understood y peeps talk so much about that song...gotta hear it again...

Now "Funny How Time Flies" is the real jam 4 ya.

"Control" i sprobably the only one that need 2 b remastered cuz all the others sound good. Suprisingly for "Rhythm Nation 1814"
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

It needs to be re-issued anyway, coz you can't even get it on CD nowadays (at least not easily)

Hopefully, they will add a few bonus tracks.I know of at least one outtake from this album---a song written with Jesse Johnson called "You Stole My Heart".I think Jesse also contributed a few other songs that didn't make the album.

Jesse&Her were cool. She was a Big Fan of His.He paid a Huge Price but not appearing in Her "Control" Video which A&M Records wanted Him to do&they kinda cooled off on His "Shockadelica" Album after that.after those cuts He did for Her on "Dreamstreet" I Can see why A&M wasn't so Hyped about allowing His Cuts on 'Control".but I do hope for a Expanded Version&Re-Mastering in the Future.I'm a Big Jesse Johnson Fan but those songs He did for Janet don't do nothing for me at all.

Oh sh*t, yes! It does. I can see it now! I would love to see something similar to Motown's Deluxe LPs. I would love for it to be a double CD. It should include Diamonds, Making Love In The Rain, French Blue and some rare unreleased Control-era outtakes, soundchecks, demos, and live material from that era. I would love to have a live album with all the great stuff, too. I'd buy 3 copies.

I thought I was the only one who cared to notice that. Glad to see there are other kids in here who can distinguish.

"You Can Be Mine" was, is and is still the jam.
I love the bridge when she's like "whatcha gon' do!" and then J&L are just jamming in the background. That is a hot record! Control was the shh.

lET ME TELL U ABOUT MY cONTROL STORY:

A few months before it was released Marthga muthafucking Quinn ann0unced on mtv news that Jam and Lewis were going into th e studio with Janet. I was hyped because I was a Time-head . I had Janerts Janet album with Come and Give Your Love To Me etc on it..I wasn't a big fan though but I was hmmm..this could be interesting . Whats Jam and Lewis going to do (since I loved what they did with SOS Band--Just Be Good To Me ). So the record finally drops real quiet like..because nobody expected anything and Janet was not an established big wig. I got the album cassette etc and played the hell outta it. In my car after the workout of the first 3 songs (industrial metal funk) folks literally asked me "who is this?" and Id reply "janbet..Janet Jackson with Jimmy Jam and terry producing writing"..they'd go "hmmm". Then the true test was a semi house party where all theree jams on side one had us all non stop erotic cabaret etc. After that it was all over. Janet did her video and the rest is history. This was her Off The Wall. And You Can Be Mine was one of the storngest houseparty cuts..Ive always felt. Sort of like the Baby Be Mine of Thriller that wasn't overplayed but still delectable. Control, Nasty, What Have U Done For Me, U Can Be Mine...good stuff.

In my opinion, if you play Control like a record or cassette and not like a CD, the entire Side A is HOTTT. The A-side to Control was one of the best A-sides on an LP during the 80s. It was just hit after hit after hit. That thing was exactly like you said it "a work out" soon after you finish sweating to "Control," freaking to "Nasty" and jamming to "What Have You Done For Me Lately" and grooving to "You Can Be Mine" she completely kills it with the "Pleasure Principle" then she introduces us to euphoria with "When I Think Of U" and lets us mellow out and vibe a little with "He Doesn't Know I'm Alive" then she just flips the script and turns us out with two of the eternal quiet storm slow jams "Let's Wait Awhile" and "Funny How Time Flies." Jam & Lewis should be commended.

BTW, thanks for sharing your Control/YCBM story -- I really got a kick out of reading that. I wish I could go back and relish in the Control era again.

Correct me if I'm wrong- but Rhythm Nation 1814 was remastered, wasn't it? And it came with the Rhythm Nation video compilation DVD?

Oh I didn't know that... is it true?

Damn I've already got Rhythm Nation 3 times (double cassette, picture disc vinyl, and CD) plus the two videos (the compilation of music vids, plus the cheesy black and white thing) so I don't think I could could justify another purchase unless there was some cool new stuff on there.

i don't think it was remastered. just repackaged with the DVD.

none of the online stores mention it being remastered. plus, it's also an A&M release, so my question above as to whether or not Control could be remastered in such a case applies here as well.

btw, i'd imagine that they probably won't be. A&M (or whoever owns them now) are going to want people to buy Design Of A Decade, i'd think. they were remastered on there. or at least had better transfers. although it's almost completely the single versions/edits (though that's not a particularly bad thing in the case of some of those songs).

VANITYSprisonB
YTCH

Universal (A&M's parent company) should give it the DELUXE EDITION treatment like they've done to some other amazing records..

Marvyn G-What's Goin On
Rick James-Street Songs
Velvet Underground & Nico
Sonic Youth-Dirty
Diana Ross-Diana
Donna Summer-Bad Girls

A fat ass double disc set with outtacks, remixes and alternate versions...

Like the albums listed above...I believe CONTROL was a very significant pop record of the 80's. It's slick Jam & Lewis production changed the face of R&B and J&L became superstars as did Janet (and TOO MANY sound alikes followed)...

Lets start a petition!!!
Every minute of last night is on my face today....
