Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez...why??

Why was there any comparison between these 2 ever? I remember when Salma started to break out after Desperado and then JLO blew up media wise, but Salma stuck to her world and worked on her craft and always did the better movies even if they didnt get the theater time that a JLO movie would. Its funny because that god awful movie GIGLI (which was not JLO's first awful movie just the latest), that movie got more press for being shit than Salma got for FRIDA. Salma has also directed her first film recently too. Salma also doesnt hold out for the big paycheck either. JLO's gigli cost 60million to make, thats because she got 20+ milion and so did Ben. But on projects like DESPERADO and now "ONCE" or even FRIDA, salma put her money in and for the Robert Rodriguez films, she took scale pay. Early on there was always talk of a rivalry but there is no way JLO could have done a project like FRIDA and JLO honestly thought she could when they first started talking about the project. Salma also made a film called TIMECODE, this film broke alot of ground because it was filmed with 4 cameras(dv) and was not edited, JLO's movies all need to be edited, big time, by like 90 minutes. I also think another big difference between the two is the fact that SALMA is real and JLO isnt. Sorry JLO can preach about "being from the block" but she is only from the block when its cool to be from the block. And IM sorry but SALMA is WAY WAY finer than JLO, even though thats not important for talent, its just something that needed to be pointed out. And SALMA can sing, no she really can, I know anyone sounds better than Jennifer, but Salma does sing, she just chooses to do what she is best at, Too bad JLO cant find that out because she does it all, pretty bad. Yeah I know shes got a big booty, but I would take SALMA anyday over that Booty.

Also check out Roselyn Sanchez, she is just as good and in the mold of Salma.

Totally wrong forum but oh well.

I also dig Salma more although I haven't seen anything she's been in for a while (maybe I'll rent some of her stuff next time I'm walking around the video store aimlessly.

It seems like Jennifer plays the same type of independent woman, looking for love, blah blah in every movie. I remember seeing both "The Cell" and "The Wedding Planner" in the same year and five minutes into both movies, Jennifer is eating at home alone and kind of depressed. I swear to God! How fucking unoriginal! I should play them back to back and find other similarities.

Can "Gigli" really be that bad a movie? I really think the media kind of set them up to watch them fall! I also find it kind of funny that both "Gigli" and were both made by Sony and were both really savagely attacked like no other movies I've ever heard! It might be due the fact Sony doesn't have a station like Fox. If Fox had a bomb in the works, do you think that Fox New would talk about it? No? Cnn bad mouths a Warners movie? I call this my Gigli Conspiracy.

There is no way, no how that both Jennifer and Ben got $20 million each. From what I've heard, they took a pay cut. There is no way they got paid that much! No. NO! The movie had to cost more than 20 million (btw, I don't even think the total was $60) to make. They aren't going to give $40 million for star power and say screw the rest!

Sorry to say but this is true. Variety and the Hollywood reporter both pointed this out, the movies total production cost was 59 million dollars, and it was said due to the salaries taken for the project. The company expected this to be a big draw, I mean Jen and Ben have had box office success and they pbviously draw media attention but the plan backfired. And another point to make in terms of production costs. "ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO" cost 29 million to make, and 80 percent of that was spent on locations and post production, editing.Robert rodriguez knows what he is doing and has respect, everyone on this film took scale pay, HAYEK AND BANDERAS did the movie without even reading the script because they feel loyal to rodriguez. The real problem here is that a movie like GIGLI even cost 15 million to make, I saw the film and they could have made it for maybe 5 at most, hell DESPERADO cost only 7 million and made over 80 million in theaters and god knows how much at retail DVD and VHS. The theory is that a movie has to double its cost to show profit so U do the math for GIGLI 59 X 2= a system designed to fail.

Not according to Salma. She was quoted saying "Jennifer Lopez is not Latina, she's American."

Jennifer is as fake as they come. Any body who has to constantly say how "real" they are and how "what you see is what you get" as much as she does (I can can list 3 different songs off the top of my head where she says this) is just a poser

Salma is a good actress, Jennifer has a measure of talent.

But remember this name: Rosalyn Sanchez.

$20 million each. Holy crap! They can never be able to demand that much ever again. I'm sure the new Kevin Smith movie they are both is didn't cost half that much
they didn't get paid half that much.

Exactly!!! I have had my eye on this actress since the mid 90's. She has good acting ability, she is getting better with each type of project she does, she also writes and is starting to help finance her own film. She is very much in the SALMA mode, she does what she does and is gaining respect of the important people. And she can also sing, I mean she can really sing. Her debut CD is out on 9/23 and is almost all in spanish (not selling out) and from what I have heard she already has the respect of real talented Latin Musicians and got them to help with the CD. I think she will truly be around for a long time as will Salma gaining respect in their fields.

It's not a remake, it's the third in a trilogy. "El Mariachi", then "Desperado" and now, "Once Upon A Time in Mexico".

She was in "Desperado" with Antonio Banderas, and is reprising her role in the latest flick.

In fact, she has quite a history with the director of these films, Robert Rodriguez. She was also in film "From Dusk Till Dawn" and just recently in "Spy Kids 3D" again with Antonio...

By the way, did I tell you she's my wife? mr.green
