Brass in Pocket

This Pretenders track was hot. (Reading BRO915's Kajagoogoo thread reminded me that this sound got airplay on urban contemporary radio too.) I love its subtle soulfulness. You go, Chrissy!

What a great singer & what a great song! I love Chrissy & The Pretender's.

Everytime I hear this song it immediately brings me back to the early 80s, playing pool with my friends in my buddy's basement, drinking Old Style & Boone's Farm, and trying to hit on every girl in the room.

The Pretenders RULE!!!

They were (and still are) one of the best New Wave groups around. I gotsta give it up for the original riot grrrl, Chrissie Hynde.

Tattooed Love Boys
Pretenders

THE MID TWENTY JOYS AROUND A HEART THAT'S BLACK AND BLUE
TATTOOED LOVE BOYS
I TORE MY KNEES UP GETTING TO YOU
'CAUSE I NEEDED
TO FIND OUT WHAT THE THING WAS FOR
BEEN READING
BUT MAN THE TIME CAME TO EXPLORE

I WENT APEWIRE 'CAUSE I THOUGHT
LIKE I'D LIKE IT LITTLE TEASE
BUT I DIDN'T MEAN IT
BUT YOU MESS WITH THE GOODS DOLL, HONEY YOU GOTTA PAY, YEAH

A GOOD TIME WAS GUARANTEED FOR ONE AND ALL
THE TATTOOS DID TARGET PRACTICE IN THE HALL
WHILE WAITING FOR THEIR NUMBER TO GET CALLED OUT
I, I, I, I FOUND OUT WHAT THE WAIT WAS ABOUT

I WAS A GOOD TIME, YEAH, I GOT PRETTY GOOD
AT CHANGING TYRES UPSTAIRS BRO
I SHOT MY MOUTH OFF AND YOU SHOWED ME WHAT THAT HOLE WAS FOR

NOW I SEE YOU
ALL IMPRESSED AND HALF UNDRESSED
YOU GOT PAINT STICK ALL OVER THE SCARS AND LUMPS AND BUMPS
TATTOOED LOVE BOYS
HAVE GOT YOU WHERE I USED TO LAY
WELL HA HA TOO BAD, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY
"STOP SNIVELLIN', YOU'RE GONNA MAKE SOME PLASTIC SURGEON A RICH MAN"

OH, BUT THE PRESTIGE AND THE GLORY
ANOTHER HUMAN INTEREST STORY
YOU ARE THAT

Don't know if that's the line that clinched it, but I think the song is kinda funky. I also remember hearing The Police's "Voices Inside My Head", Level 42's "Starchild" as well as a song by Kiss and The Who (wish I could remember the titles) on urban contemporary stations in NY. I think I Pink Floyd's "The Wall" got some play also.

LOL...I remember Pink Floyd's song "The Wall" getting played on R&B urban contemporary stations. it wasn't in heavy rotation...but it did get played. The Police's "Spirits In The Material World" used to get on urban stations too.

My favorite two jams by Hyde and The Pretenders is "My City Was Gone" and "Middle Of The Road".

Kiss and The Who??? Wow! I'm thinking only in NY could that happen.

Back during the Disco days the R&B station in my neck of the woods played Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", but of course Rod co-opted Disco back then. But then, in later years they played Rod's song "Infatuation"...this was during the mid to late 80s. Jeff Beck on geetar. I still dig that one.

My favorite two jams by Hyde and The Pretenders is "My City Was Gone" and "Middle Of The Road".

From the brilliant Learning To Crawl album. One of two great albums by the Pretenders I have.
