All Time Musical Icons VH1 created a list of the top 200 icons of all time. Never mind the fact it sucked, (Oprah was #1 and JLo ranked higher than Ali if that tells you anything) I was trying to think of who would be on the list if it was just the top 10 and limited to the music world. I'll list mine in a sec but first make sure you understand the guidelines. These aren't your favorite musicians. These are icons in the sense they transcended their music and made an impact on pop culture as a whole. That said mine are as follows:

We are losing site of what an icon is. It's not just enough to make some cool songs. Icons become bigger than the music itself. You are trying to redefine what an icon is. There are many performers who have large loyal followings who aren't icons. An icon becomes larger than life. There are a lot of performers I love too but aren't going to call them icons if they aren't. I knew this would happen. People always want to put their personal taste into a subject like this. This isn't about musical tastes or who we think is cool. This is about icons or if you will mega stars that transcends music. Can you honestly say Kate Bush transcends her music? Funny how peeps freak out when variations of these threads come up. It's meant for as many peeps to participate as possible, not just one person list it all. It's cool to dissect and debate whether somebody is worth of being on a list, but sometimes it goes on a deep end.

Mother of country music (the coal miner's daughter herself), she started the female country icon and paved the way. These people go far beyond just good songs or albums, they cross genre lines. Nirvana - Well, not my fave at all but after seeing the display in the rock-n-roll hall of fame, they did usher in a new movement that changed music. Take them or leave them, i don't mind. You can add Tina Turner if you take away the Nirvana boys ---------------------------------
