Donna Summer's new CD----will it EVER be released?

Back in the 70s,a new Donna Summer album appeared every six months or so.I'm not kidding,in her heyday, she routinely released two albums a year.In 1976,she released both the 'A Love Trilogy' and 'Four Seasons Of Love' albums. In 1977,she released 'I Remember Yesterday' and the 2-record set 'Once Upon A Time'.In 1979,she released *TWO* double-album sets, the innovative 'Bad Girls' album, and the 'On The Radio' project (a greatest hits set with a few new tracks). Those were the days...

Flash forward to 2003.Donna hasn't released a new studio album since 1991 ('Mistaken Identity').She's been having major record company problems lately. In 1999,she signed a new contract with Sony. After releasing a well-received Live album, she began work on a new studio album.Around this time,Cher was enjoying a huge comeback hit with "Believe",so there was a sense that, with the right song,Donna could also make a stunning comeback.Donna began work on the album which is titled 'Angel'.She has recorded over 30 new tracks between 1999-2002.This is a tentative tracklist...

DONNA SUMMER 'ANGEL' CD (release date :never?)

"Angel"
"You're So Beautiful"
"Work It"
"Half The Battle"
"Til You Get It"
"Valley Of The Moon"
"Only Words"
"Rain On My Shoulders"
"Tearin Down The Berlin Wall"
"Not A Day"

Donna was recently dropped from the Sony roster, which means that the album may not ever be released,at least not in it's current form. One track,"You're So Beautiful" has leaked and is now being played in various gay nightclubs across the country.Donna was said to be very upset aboout this and has notified her lawyers. But can she really blame her fans for wanting to hear a new song (ANY song!) from her? How ironic that Cher can record a few dance albums, and successfully re-invent herself as a hip Disco Queen for the 2000s,while the original Dance Music diva can't even get her new music out!

I've heard "You're So Beautiful" on mix through the internet (forgot the link) and it was amazing! I'm pretty surprised that she isn't happy about this leak but then again, if she does want to release it, the leak might not be a good deal for her. I don't know what will happen to that music but I don't see a record label by that album. The last time I heard of an album being done for another company and then being released on another was "Glitter". Maraih made it for Sony but Virgin bought it for mega bucks (and not a good deal for them). Mariah's ablums were doing well then and Donna...well isn't! I hope this album gets released and have heard rumours that Tommy Mottola will sign her but what label is he working for or is in charge of. We'll just have to wait and see. She might go indie but then the album will go nowhere!

Yeah,Donna is pretty much caught in a no-win situation, isn't she? But there might be a glimmer of hope.Donna is currently writing her autobiography and it WILL be released in October.Since she will,no doubt, be doing alot of publicity for the book (TV appearances, talk shows, etc),it would make sense to have a new CD out around that time too. So,I'm hoping that this is her strategy...fine-tune the album, get a new deal and work everything out so that she can end this year with a new book AND a new album.Fingers crossed.

That would work out well. I don't predict anything happening with that book, though as many autobiographies by singers hardly get noticed, but that would be cool for it to all work out. Damn, looks like we are the only two that care about this album!

Considering her Live Cd for VH1 was a return for her...She was all over the Television across america!

Everyone was loving the comeback concert and cd...from VH1 and wouldve been the perfect time for a new record...

Maybe she should do a movie about her life...atleast Tina got the respect a decade later from new fans, young and old with whats love got to do with it!

I love donna, what a woman, what a voice!

I'm hoping that, when her autobiography comes out this fall, there will be alot of interest from Hollywood.I think her life story would make an excellent movie. Her life and career is filled with alot of drama( conflcits with her father, having a daughter at a young age,her early "sexpot" image, the problems at Casablanca, the drugs, her becoming born-again at the height of her career, the problems with David Geffen, the rejected album, the clashes with Quincy Jones when he produced an album for her,the gay backlash of the mid-80s,the late-80s comeback, the death of her mother and sister in the 90s,etc).If you can't wait for her book,be sure to pick up the new unauthorized book "Donna Summer: Her Life And Music" by Josiah Howard. It was released a few months ago.ALOT of interesting details in this book!!
