James - the architect of funk

Sly (platform for funk master Larry Graham)

Bootsy (Bootsy brought "the 1" to George, not the other way around..)

as for the 4th entity on this hallowed mountain.. I am really torn between the mid/late-70s Isley Brothers (Marvin) & Cameo..

the Isleys & Cameo - though relatively more "brief" & not as long term impactful..

man they BROUGHT the funk. HARD.

I'll see you tonight..

I see many obvious choices, but would add Shock G. He's a lot more influential than people realize.

What about Larry Smith or DJ Quik?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

James - invented it
Sly - elevated it
George - philosophized it
Prince - integrated it

Not that I think any of them should be frozen in stone.

This is just one of the many interviews where Bootsy talked about JB and the one:

If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

I'll check those out.

Not that I don't believe him, I remember hearing about this from Bootsy's Tales from the Tour Bus episode when he was playing for James. It's just interesting to consider him on Mt. Funkmore because that is a strong case though I definitely wouldn't put him there over the mastermind, George, himself.
