What Prince song does Oh, Sheila sound most like? Definetly something from the 1999/Controversy era. Maybe Lady Cab Driver?
A certain kind of mellow.

I can't even listen to Lady Cab Driver without singing Oh Sheila along to it.

definitely lady cab driver and in my opinion, one of the better prince influenced tracks.

I'll top Lady Cab Driver. The song Oh Sheila sounds most like imo is Cameo's Style

Style is kinda a sequel to "Just Be Yourself" on the "Alligator woman" Album! However: That Keyboard line is EEEEEEERILY reminiscent of "Oh Sheila"!! Cameo was/is one of RFTW's influences!!

Oh Sheila is like Prince and The Time had a baby, and out popped Oh Sheila.

I was gonna say the same thing RFTW definitely borrowed that synth rip from "Style".

It sure is,isn't it? This is an odd album in Cameo's catalog. It came and went very quickly.

It actually doesn't sound like any Prince song.
the lynn and the synth do it

"Oh, Sheila" and this both took a page from "Lady Cab Driver"

Definitely something '83 era Prince inspired. I never liked this song. Wildly unoriginal.

None in my opinion. | |

If Prince did it during that period, it would have been far superior, so I most likely would have liked it.

also, prince himself took the melody from larry grahams' "sooner or later" as some here have noticed before.

what was with thtat stupid aussie accent at the beginning, i think the commodores or someone did that too.

“I’m The One Who Loves You” and “Mary Goes ‘Round” are just a few of their songs that also borrow heavily from Prince.RFTW seemed to be fascinated by Prince’s 1982 period, when he was using a lot of synths and the Linn drum machine.

For some reason I'm hearing more of the Sheilla E (Glamorous Life) stuff when I hear these songs

I'm sure Sheila E was so honored! It was a BIG HIT for RFTW(whom led singer Melvin Riley I encountered at a conference years ago trying to make an attempt at a solo career).

I think just the choice of instruments of Linn Drum with the low-tuned rimshot (a la Let's Go Crazy), plus synth, and slapping bass was enough to conjure Prince even as a four-year-old kid who hadn't even heard "Lady Cab Driver". Of course, we all thought Sheila meant Sheila E.

Mainly because LB was just starting his subsidiary Atlanta Artists label and probably rushed to get the album completed. Also the followup single behind Style which was that awful Elvis Presley remake Can't Help Falling In Love killed any momentum this album were to have. The followup single should have been either This Life Is Not For Me or You're A Winner which was my album favorite. Notice Cameo fared much better with the followup album She's Strange. "Oh Sheila" sounds so much like Prince c.1983 that's it's hilarious. I especially appreciate the guy doing that "what's good for the goose... is good for the gander" bit with a slightly effeminate voice, almost indistinguishably, and then the synth/keyboard part is straight from 1999.

I always felt the guitar solo in Love You Down was a slowed down homage to Dez's solo in LRC.
