Madonna announces new album title - "Madame X"

So, hours ago Madonna made a series of Instagram posts with cryptic messages and then some short videos of her playing various instruments, including one of her stating "I've decided to call my new record Madame X". Coupled with that, she has put out a spotify playlist called "#magic" with six songs, of which the initial letters form "M-A-D-A-M-EX". Anyone excited?

yes it does. Just shame of that hint of vocal processing, still a tad too much but way better than the last years.

Those photos are quite good. I hope the album's aesthetic feels more organic than her recent output. Rebel Heart was her realizing she needs to stay in shape, I guess.

From what I've heard, she's been living in Portugal for awhile and the new album was heavily inspired by the latin sounds of that place.

Madonna Announces New Album 'Madame X'

Screenshot_20190414_211843.jpg

After months of hinting that new music was on the way, Madonna has finally revealed at least the name of an upcoming project, and she’s given fans a sense of what her new tunes may sound like via some tantalizing social media posts.

The singer uploaded a video to both Instagram and Twitter this morning (April 14), in which she shares that she’s decided to name her new album Madame X, though she doesn’t state when it may arrive. The name seems to refer to a character, or perhaps an alter ego that Madonna has created, who she describes as “a secret agent / Traveling around the world / Changing identities / Fighting for freedom / Bringing light to dark places.”

Madonna then rattles off an exciting list of descriptions that seem to fit this Madame X character, including calling her “a cha cha instructor, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper, an equestrian, a prisoner, a student, a teacher, a nun, a cabaret singer, a saint and a prostitute"

The first list of descriptors was posted yesterday (April 13), while a handful of videos, including the one where she shares that Madame X is indeed the name of what will be her next full-length, went up on Sunday (April 14). The visual is soundtracked by what is likely a song featured on the album, where Madonna sings, “The thing that hurts the most / is that I wasn’t lost,” with autotune added for special effect.

Madonna riled her millions of fans up earlier this month when she posted a grid of images on her Instagram with nothing but the letter X, though nobody was able to figure of what she was saying at the time until now.

If she makes something inspired by this, it'll be great.

I read somewhere that she is also taking some sounds from Brazil's funk carioca.

This type of music might sound a bit too exotic if taken by Madonna, but that's left me somewhat intrigued.

She recorded a song with an artist named Maluma but I'm not really familiar with him or his music

He's alright. It's fun party music.

.

I just really REALLY hope this isn't like when Hard Candy got out only after the RnB-influenced dance music fad was fading out. Anyone who follows the news better than me knows if latin dance music is still hot around?

I like dark hair Madonna. She feels more down to earth, grungy, real.

Anyway, I do hope her Lisbon stay (while son David is in school and pursuing soccer) has rubbed off on her music. I love Madge, but her record (no pun) has been spotty in the last 20 years. Some great (Ray of Light, Confessions), some good (Music), and a few stinkers (American Life, Hard Candy, Rebel Heart - fight me). I'd love to hear a less acrylic, flattened production than in recent years. Prince got in the same area around Emancipation and went balls deep in it on things like NewPowerSoul and other stuff. It misses a lot of airy, bright, realness. It feels digital and compressed like a 56k MP3 on Napster. But even for electronica, Ray of Light had breath to it. It had life behind it. American Life and Hard Candy just felt like she was phoning it in. (I blame part of that on Pharrell's minimalistic approach, too.)

I'm just bored with Madonna's electronica phase. It's been 22 years. Find a new sound already. I always hold out hope for new M music. Wednesday will either be like a river, or ..it won't.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I've always considered Confessions to be the last of her "electronica" phase. I wouldn't really classify Hard Candy or Rebel Heart as that. MDNA could fall under EDM I suppose but that's pushing it a bit when you consider some of the songs on there. I just think of it more as a straight up pop record really. I think I know what you mean by "flattened" production, the mastering on her recent albums has left a lot to be desired, giving everything a compressed feel. After the fiasco of Rebel Heart leaking months in advance, Madonna has kept information very tight this time around so we know very little but apparently this time around she has really delivered. She's been filming lots of videos over the course of the past few months, plus now the revelation of all the different Madame X characters, there's heavy speculation there's some sort of visual accompaniment outside of just the standard music videos filmed for singles only. She really seems to have a bit of a fire under her ass this time.

I've heard the Indian Summer rumor is false. It's looking more and more like Medellin is the Maluma duet and what we'll be hearing this week (if anything). There was a rumor that the album launch will have two lead singles, the other being a more "disco" oriented track. Considering we may hear new music this week, we really know very little. Props to Madge for keeping everything under wraps this time.

Can't say I'm blown away by the music in the announce trailer ... but I really like the idea of a concept album, just to break her out of the spiral of the last three albums where it felt she was just chasing after whatever sound was popular on the charts at that point in time.

I hope she sticks to the concept and sees it through, no matter how experimental, and doesn't just toy with the idea.

The upcoming Eurovision appearance on the other hand, don't get me started neutral ...

I can see the separation after Confessions, but the flatter production certain crossed between pre- and post-Confessions; seemingly moreso on MDNA. Hard Candy is just boring as hell which is partly from the production, the flow, some of the lyrics - blah blah.

How do we know she's been filming "lots of videos" aside from her social media stuff? I didn't see anything about different characters, but I saw characteristics of this Madame X person. I've not heard anyone say anything about a visual album, a la Beyonce or Solange. But I wouldn't be totally surprised. All that background video they produce for the shows, that energy and money could be put into an album package like BEYONCÉ or Lemonade.

Someone mentioned to me on Twitter the other day how she is always committed to what she's doing, and I agree. The fire under her ass is always there; it's just the translation to the public that sometimes misses the boat. She believes in it, but do we? I think we all did until the aughts, when her output started to waiver.

But I'm always optimistic about new M music.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Hard Candy and MDNA have a few solid tunes on each album, also several demo versions and extendeds (the Orbit SoundCloud MDNA is fantastic). I tuned out of a lot of her visual persona as it has gone in an odd, unbalanced direction that I totally get but it doesn’t appeal to me as a former stan. I’m hoping the tight grip she has kept over this new project means some good tunes are coming. RH was a mess and felt unfinished with all those silly deluxe editions. I hope she doesn’t do that again. Bundle that shit with a coupon for some of that expensive lotion and face dildo rollers. lol

This is so much hilarious. I can’t lol lol there’s one where she is walking with her dildo roller down the hallway, too much. She is something else.
.
Also this will be the grand unveiling of her new bum.
