New single from Jam & Lewis: Volume One https://www.rollingstone....ou-821606/ . Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the songwriting team behind some of Janet Jackson and Boyz II Men’s biggest hits, will release a new compilation of new original music, Jam & Lewis: Volume One, this summer. . Today, they’re offering up the first track from it, “‘Til I Found You,” an upbeat, gospel-tinged vocal powerhouse that features music by the group Sounds of Blackness and singing by Ann Nesby, Big Jim Wright and Lauren Evans. In addition to leaving room for each of the singers to push their voices to the heavens (in fact, they sing, “Heaven must be like this”), the track contains many signatures of Jam and Lewis’ trademark sound, including snappy rhythms and horn accents. . “Sounds of Blackness will always hold such a special place in our hearts because they were the first act we signed to our original record label,” Jam said in a statement. “We felt it was only right for this single with them to introduce our compilation album.” . “It felt great to be back in the studio with Sounds of Blackness and create new music we’re really proud of,” Lewis said. “The track definitely sets the tone for the album, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear what’s next.” . Jam and Lewis have yet to reveal what other collaborations will be featured on the album. Since the early Eighties, the duo, which met in Minneapolis, has worked with Prince, the Time, Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, New Edition and many others. In addition to nine Hot 100 Number Ones for Janet Jackson, they’ve written songs that claimed the top spot for the Human League, George Michael, Karyn White, Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey and Usher. They’ve earned more than 100 sales awards, including diamond plaques, and have won five Grammys. . https://www.youtube.com/w...TF7JsQEnyQ (anyone else having probs with the ol' [youtube]?) if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

I'm not a big fan of this song at all BUT I do like the 90s style production and I have high hopes for the album. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

I'm glad this compilation is finally coming out.I've been waiting for this seems like forever. I was fortunate enough to recently meet Jimmy Jam. I can't wait to hear the Janet cut on there. I know it's going to be FIRE! Nice track. Sadly Big Jim Wright died last year. He was out on the road with LoKey? as their keyboard player and musical director. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Not as good as Hot Boy. All you others say Hell Yea!!

To my ears, the vocals sound very forced and uninspired. The song is very by-the-books and doesn't surprise, excite or take me anywhere. There are too many vocalists staying 'in the same place', as it were. A very boring track to my ears. Not a good choice for first track.

I love how they give S.O.B. their propers by introducing the compilation with them via the first single which is really pretty 2 my ears, and I'm SO LOOKING 4ward 2 seeing who ELSE is gonna be up in the mix! Hopefully Cherrelle (without Alexander Oneal duetting with her), Alex, S.O.S. Band and Rhonda Clark! Maybe even some Cheryl Lynn and some Thelma Houston! As 4 Janet, we KNOW sumpthin' hot's on the way! Can't WAIT! Jam & Lewis have been my idols since Klymaxx's "Wild Girls" back in '82! <3 [Edited 4/15/19 19:18pm] Hungry? It's ok. If that is the best track on the cd, it's in trouble. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

I wanted to like it but it sounds very dated.
I will hold out hope for the other tracks though. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

- What's "Hot Boy"? Haven't heard it yet..
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Define "dated." I see it pop up all the time and it makes me wanna think BACK a bit, but when I DO, I see that dated is only dated until it's remastered and this embodies the sound of today. Mastered mastery. Crisp, energetic, chunky, funky, loud and PROUD! <3 Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

How is that? I've seen some comments on New Edition videos on Youtube that Ralph does not want to work with Bobby for some reason. I don't know what that is or if it's true. But not that NE is done, just that it'll be the Heartbreak lineup whenever they get back together. I do know that Ralph is currently recording a solo album because I listen to his radio show sometimes. I saw a recent interview that Ralph did in which he said he had recently spoken to Mike Bivins after about a year of not doing so. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Johnny Gil owns the trademark name of New Edition now. So NONE of them can tour using that name without his permission. The New Edition movie actually made things worse between them. It was a whole plan for ALL of them to tour together including the castmates that played their characters. But then the BBD(Ronnie,Mike & RIcky) portion of the group decided they wanted to tour & record on their own without the rest first. After that the WHOLE thing fell apart. Also Bobby Brown was having difficulty keeping up with them dancing with his weight & health problems. But Bobby has now lost close to 100 pounds & is currently touring on his own and with the newly formed group R.B.R.M(Ronnie,Bobby,Rickey,& Mike) renamed because Ralph left the group & Johnny won't clear the name for them to use anymore. It's a BIG mess.

I wonder if the collaborations are with only artist they've worked with before like Janet,Human League, Herb Alpert etc or newer artist of today.

- How the heck did Johnny manage that? He was last added to the group? And shame on them all for not trademarking their name beforehand, after all they've been through earlier in their career (if it's true).
