. @modified: I just now learned of Moses Sumney because of his feature on James Blake's new album Assume Form. I'm listening to his KEXP performance and he is very good! I have no hate for the mainstream, but over the past couple weeks I've been looking at some artists that have been less in the spotlights and more in the critics' eye, and it's been a lot of fun to just listen to both 'scenes' side by side. Little bit of Ariana Grande, little bit of Sharon Van Etten, so to speak. It's all love. . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

How is making soundalike popular music from decades ago "modern"? That's the same thing as orchestras performing music from guys who have been dead for hundreds of years or the kinds of singers/bands who perform at Renaissance Faires or a polka band. Even that's not really new either. Performers have done retro in the past. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

They shot two of these videos for the price of one on VHS in Los Angeles. Prince used to do that...

The members of Tuxedo, also Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One, are all talented singers, musicians, writers, producers who have done many other projects. They are on the Stones Throw label that has put out some of the most innovative music of the last two decades.

Hiatus Kaiyote drummer Perrin Moss (aka Clever Austin) just announced his solo debut last night: https://cleveraustin.band...pareidolia Georgia Ann Muldrow (Stones Throw) featured on one track. New Hiatus Kaiyote album should come this year, with an Anderson. Paak guest appearance.

I agree. I heard this for decades now and I am not even 40 yet. And the 13-year-old girl right now is going to say the same thing years from now that modern day music is bad.
But good human invention about recording is that you can listen to the oldies at anytime to relieve so I guess us older people have to let the preteens and teens have their time. Or we can listen to new music from the artists we grew up on.

I really like Tuxedo. They totally capture the feel and the vibe of early 80s R&B/funk.It's just about time for a new album from them.I hope they got something planned.
