Any fans of the New Orleans band Water Seed here? I saw them last night in Kansas City without having heard a lick before, and I was very impressed. While they are primarily a funk band, their versality at mixing genres reminded me of our Purple Yoda. I never knew exactly what the next song was going to sound like. The first couple of songs were kinda P-Funkish, and then out of nowhere came a tune that reminded me of one of those new-wave rockabilly things with squiggly synths that Prince would toss off in the early '80s. Later songs fairly effortlessly pulled from R&B, jazz, rock, doo-wop, and gospel--and I might be forgetting a thing or two. They call it "future funk." Great stage presence, too.

I couldn't tell you which songs to check out, being so new to them myself, but go see them if you get the chance.

Ooh, they definitely bring the funk! Very good. I'll be keeping an eye out for these!
